right as you can see, im looking at buying a 2nd gen n/a rx7.
had a quick search and a skim through the guides, didnt really find what was looking for, anyway just a few questions.
first of all can anyone give me a rough estimate of the petrol these things use, ive seen that their about 18mpg in city and 25mpg and 56mph, is this realistic?
I plan on buying one of these cars firstly because i think there amazing, secondly because its the most powerful car i can really afford to own and run, and thirdly because id quite like a car i can work on, to fix if it goes rong etc as this will help me gain experience for my uni course. So how unreliable are these cars? am i going to have to worry about getting from A to B all the time? and am i likely to be able to fix any of the problems? ive currently only ever replaced the odd light, or changed break pads on a car.
thats all for now, im sure ill have more questions later on :)
cheers
ive got an e reg one for sale,i need to fit a set of tyres and get it mot\'d befor i sell it,its just had the front calipers re built cos they had seized pistons, the rear calipers have been cleaned and painted with new pads fitted and the hand brake lever freed off on the n/s,i have changed a few brake pipes but expect to do some more for the mot,the body work is solid exept for a small hole in the drivers side front wing(easy repair)the paintwork has got the usual flakey laquer but its not too bad, there are a few small dents down the sides as you would expect to find on a car of this age,the interior is in pretty good condition too,the engine runs smooth and starts every time,if you are interested let me know.i was going to keep it but i have another one that i\'m putting a v8 in and need the space.its not taxed but i can do that for you if you buy it (at your expense)
ah im not going to buy till the end of summer, i just wanted to evaluate what the costs would be so i can make sure i have enough money to maintain and run the car.
thanks for the offer anyway
these are really surprisingly realible because they do not generate as much heat as their turbo counterparts, cost is anything from a few hundred pounds but you get what you pay for. Mileage is still important and there are a few with genuine low mile but sometimes these are the worst as they are never used unless in hot sunny days. These cars need to be used, need a good thrashing every now and then. You can still pick up a really good one for under £2000 and for that you should get a really tidy motor. I tend to go for the cheaper ones and spend the same money on them but then I have something I have built and get a lot more satisfaction out of it rather than one thats just come out of the box. Personal choice though. I recently sold a TII Cab for nearly £4500 but it was excellent and with service history so the market is there and you just need to know what you are buying and what to look for.
i was under the impression they were more reliable, but i just wasnt sure how much.
for 3rd gens it seems to be 2nd nature to get a compression test before you buy, would the same be true for a 2nd gen n/a. also i havnt seen any info about a compression test reguarding cost and where it can be done, any ideas
thanks for the previous post btw, made me feel alot better :)
