Title: Apexi ECU questions.
Post by: adamk on December 22, 2007, 10:53:39 AM
Hi all.

Just a few Apexi ECU q\'s if any one can help please.
I want to get one..... if I can!!! very soon.

I have a 1993 FD twin turbo so shall I be needing a Series 1-3 91/12-95/11.

Ok are there any differant types? what are the differances?

Do I need to buy the boost controller kit that goes with it in order to control the boost? or does the unit do this anyway?

Is a commander worth having?

Any more advice pointers will be great!

Are Nengun performance any good ?, I see the huge wait,  but very good prices!

And what the Devil is a GM3 bar map sensor???

Many thanks again,

Adam

I think they changed the shape of the plug and later ecu where 16bit instead of 8 bit. Not completly sure though.

It doesn\'t need the add on kit to control the boost. There is a pill in one of the lines that limits the boost level. The add on kit is naff too. Go for Profec B spec 2.

Worth every penny. You get to see vital engine information like water and air temp, see what your injectors are maxing out at. I wouldn\'t be without it !

Get one fit, get it tuned and the difference is amazing !

This is an uprated sensor that comes with the add on kit, only bit worth owning of the kit. It will allow the ecu to sense upto 3bar boost. Not sure if this includes the 1 bar of 1 atmosphere though, so may only read upto 2 bar of boost.

As for Nengun. Your better off getting it local even if it costs £100 more. You run the risk of shipping and Duty to add that on top.

Hi Adam, this may help.

Ok are there any differant types? what are the differances?

There are three types of ECU for the 3rd gen RX-7 all have phisicaly different wiring plug connections.

Do I need to buy the boost controller kit that goes with it in order to control the boost? or does the unit do this anyway?

On a Twin Turbo car the Apexi will control this so no need for any aditional controllers.

Is a commander worth having?

This will give you lots of acurate info.

Nengun performance any good ?,

Never used em so can\'t comment.

And what the Devil is a GM3 bar map sensor???

This allows you to feed big amounts of boost through your engine and  unless you are running a single Turbo conversion ignor this.

For more info use the search button at the top of the page useing the word "Apexi"

The three way back order is no where near reality at the moment due to the problems with Apexi. I waited over two months before giving up and finding one in the UK. You have to remember that there will also be a charge on top of the above price for payment. Taking this in to account the price gets closer to those in the UK and will be even closer if you get unlucky with the customs lottery.

I\'d try the usual suspects (Rotary Specialists) starting with the vendors advertising up top...

As to the boost controller, as Clive pointed out you don\'t really need one if your car is mostly standard and still running twins. I\'ve just had this discussion with RoTechniks as there\'s a plan for some sillier turbos that I\'m hatching and they suggest that once you past 1 bar, you probably will want a boost controller.

Ok,  I wont be pushing up the boost past 1 bar /14.7 psi !
so sounds like no need for a controller for me!

Thanks for the info/ sugestions everyone.

ordered it on 10th oct this year and arrived on the 30th
paid £360 in total with no vat/duty

but the difference with mine was that it was for a 99spec so they had it in stock.
