I\'m in the market for a new clutch and the Carbon Dcore might be a bit pricey for me so i\'m trying to get opinions on the Hyper single plate and the double plate.
I hear the Single can be a bit hard on the left leg but the double a bit twitchy in traffic.
Can I have your opinions please ?
Thanks

Hi Bulla,
Your question really depends on the power of your car and what you are going to use your car for,
If you have say 550 plus flywheel horsepower and want to go Drag Racing I would suggest the twin plate,
If you have between 400 and 550 the Exedy single will be fine.
Or if you only have upto 400 and are not off Drag racing then our Stage 1 with a cerametalic center-plate will be fine and also keep the car diving almost like a standard car with no real difference to pedal pressure, we can also supply a super light flywheel to go with this clutch.
A little tip with the multi and single plate racing clutches that we have found is if the car has a jerky pull away this can be often sorted by fine tuning the pedal hight your left leg will operate at a slightly different angle and the clutch "bite" becomes much more controllable giving a smother pull away.
You can find out more info and buy any of the above clutches on-line if you wish by following this link
http://www.mazdarotaryparts.com/bfd-clutch--transmissionb-273-c.asp
Also as a special offer at the moment we are supply a free release bearing worth £56 with any of the clutches purchased above
Hope this helps
i have a exedy racing clutch which i got from dragon.
gives me leg ache after 30 mins and is more of a switch than a clutch as it is either on or off and nothing in between.
i personnaly would not buy another one.

Hi Nick,
Have a little read above as you may find adjustment may help.
Also has Ross supplied you with a new clutch or S/H one as there are some very prehistoric discontinued clutches around as S/H units and this could be part of your problem if you had one of these fitted.
p.s. well done getting your car in the mag:cool .

I have fitted and driven single and twin plate exedy clutches, they are very grabby, and as others have said, more of a switch than a driveable clutch.
The single plate is definately very heavy
I have just replaced my clutch with a twin plate os giken, really nice clutch, pedal force is not a great deal heavier than stock. I would highly recommend to anyone, purchased through Greenline motorsport. I opted for the higher rated R2CD which has centre damping etc. Outstanding clutch which was £750.00 delivered, if you need the push pull converter it is about £120.00

Hi Clive,
Thanks for the detailed reply.
I dont know exactly what the car is gonna be pushing power wise yet but I\'m estimating on at least 400rwhp, it will be ported and running an Aspec 500r. Use of the car will be mainly road and track although thats not to say I wont try my hand up the strip on occasion :Laugh
I realise that when you get to certain power levels you have to give up the idea of a nice easy to use clutch. Its just I cant seem to find a definitive view on the clutches on offer as everyone\'s opinion seems to vary, some saying stick with the single and others saying go twin plate.

So do you have the Single or Twin ? There\'s posts on this forum that suggest the Single is not too much different to Stock :Hammer
Bulla
OS Giken if your not looking for a carbon clutch. We have just fitted the Top end twin plate OS Giken clutch and is a lovelt peice of kit. Is it heavier than stock yes but its usable.
As you will be using the car on the track i would suggest the twin plate. The single would be ok if it where just a road car but could get over stressed on the track. There are a few different version to choose form in the OS Giken twin range.
Many thanks

mr2\'s are silly cars :Thumbsup! my mate has had a couple, one turbo and one gti and they were both pretty pants, there must of been summit wrong with the gti he had, was really slow i reckon i could have run faster hehe
i had the exedy twin plate on my gt4. it was running 350bhp. i know its a different car and everything but i wouldnt go for it again. had a few problem with it to start with had to replace the master cylinder as the clutch pedal kept sticking to the floor. got it all fixed and then the next problem was to try and learn to drive with it. its like an on/off switch so hard to get used to in traffic. i used the car every day so did learn how to drive it and get used to it but there are better clutches out there for around the same money.

Hi Bulla,
No you wont have to give up the idea of a nice easy to drive clutch at all :Santa
By not matching the clutch to the cars a lot of people end actually going overkill and destroying the drivabilaty of their road car for your use you really need look no further than the clutch on the link here as we have had cars of your power and owners using the cars as your going to out there running around for over a year now with no problems.
http://www.mazdarotaryparts.com/bfd-ct002-mrp-developed-exedy-stage-one-clutchb-730-p.asp
And the real good thing is there is hardly any pedal pressure difference and this clutch assembly drives very very similar to stock on pull away also you can use this clutch up against your standard flywheel or alternatively you can fit a super light Exedy flywheel.
We also have the above clutch sitting on the shelf for immediate delivery if required.
i got exedy single 3 puk its a good clutch holds well not to bad untill it get warm ie in traffic can be a Little hard but not to bad got it from rhd japan cost about £450 they also have 6 puk with flywheel

have a look round they have all the parts as spares as well and the shipping ant bad just order this one for customers car cost me £534 with fuel pressure reg Del to UK very good place to buy from
Another vote here for the OS Giken twin-plate. I have had mine a few months and it is far better then the single-plate Exedy i had before. Much lighter on the pedal and easier to use, not like a switch at all. It reminds me of a normal clutch.
Gets a little more grabby and \'switchy\' when the car is very hot. Thats my only complaint.
I wouldn\'t own another Exedy having had both.
Andy
I\'ve had a few different types of Clutch and tbh even though the Twin works better (usaly easier to push down at good hp levels) i don\'t like the Twins rattle when you are stationary with the clutch down. But i guess that a Trade off for a better weighted peddle???
I find the main thing that makes the difference is if the Plates are Sprung or not? i have had a few Unsprung Twins and they bite quite hard (you will stall it a few times until you get used to it) but the sprung Twin i had was very nice to drive. Just watch the Single Unsprung clutches they really can be ON/OFF.
We have the OS Giken & Exedy on here
http://www.rotaryart.uk.com/acatalog/Transmission.html
But at the moment a new Exedy 3 palte carbon for only £700 inc vat plus delivery.
i had exedy and had to change it
u needed thighs like the terminator and it was either on or off and used tu pull away like a kangaroo
not had any experience of the stage 1 clive has developed but i went for the centre force and thats really nice
I have exedy in mine and would never have another one.
It\'s judery, burns quite abit when first driving (especially reversing out of garage and pulling off in the morning) and generally not that good. Pip assures me that the clutch is ok as he fitted it when the engine was built. My car is only a street port on standard twins.
I had OS gliken on my 300zx running 600hp and it was fantastic to use and lasted a good few years of punishment!!
OS all the way!
Exedy are cr#p - no control and quite honestly unless you intend to run above 300 atw [350ish fwhp] stick with stock. Other than that try an extream single plate a bit softer on the left thigh, still a bit in or out but a much better uprated single plate, REworx sell them if you need a price.
Well I hope there not all that bad, I\'ve just ordered a Carbon Twin Dcore.
