Title: SMIC kit, which one?
Post by: trevtubby on December 19, 2007, 01:28:21 PM
Hi,

to carry on from my Greddy elbow thread..basically im certain im getting the greddy elbow, and I was going to some custom pipework made up to go from the standard intercooler to the elbow, and also to go from the second turbo to the Intercooler (to replace the crappy black plastic).

But i`m thinking it may be more beneficial and cost affective to just get an aftermarket SMIC which will come with the required pipework already. Plus it will help with my intake charges and be nice and shiney :wiggle

Whats the best bang for your buck SMIC which will come with the correct pipework that i`m after and also fit without the hassle of moving or upgrading the radiator too.

I`m not looking for big power, the car is practically standard and i`m only adding the greddy elbow etc for visual affect :Thumbs-up

Thanks for your help,

Trev

p.s was looking at the very cheap but probably not very good Turbo XS SMIC, anybody had any experience with this?

You could always look for a good condition, second hand SMIC by a recognised tuner.

I use an ARC SMIC, I replaced an XS Power SMIC as they do not come with any ducting which is advised to provide suficient airflow to the SMIC, which is after all right in the middle of a hot engine bay!  The ARC oe uses the stcok ducting and therefore saved me some hastle!

If you do go down the XS Power route give me a shout as I still have mine (still in cracking condition and hardly used) plus piping that you can have for a few quid and make your own plasdtic ducting up :)

i will have re-amemiya smic for sale with all the pipe work etc.  basically these are the best replacement you can get for smic.  i will check the condition as i have not taken it out will do this afternoon if you are interested.
thanks

whats your e-mail add?  i\'ll some pics to you with the price delivered.

what other mods do you have on the car?  Are you running Apexi ecu and if yes then with standard exhaust on standard twins? then you will be ok with this IC and keep the battery and the filters as these are same width as standard ic but thicker with 100 times better core and flow.

Is the pfc is already in place then hasn\'t been mapped before or have you just replaced it from standard ecu.

Although the base map runs richer for twins but its always a very good idea to get her mapped if not done already to be on safe side.

The XS Power one (using the pipes that come with it) does involve removal of the Air Pump I think.. Certainly wont fit in without removing something near there!

Seemed a good intercooler, but better to get piping made up IIRC..

I had the power fc mapped by pip about 11 months ago, havnt touched the engine since.

I`m only really after engine dress-up parts as i`m happy with the power as it is and want to keep it reliable. Obviously if a SMIC would provide the pipework needed and also provide lower intake temps as a bonus, but not much extra in price...I was considering it.

But if I need to get her re-mapped as well it really isnt going to be worth it, not for what i`m after.

I`ll probably just go with hard-pipes for the standard I/C with the greddy elbow and BOV. :yes

xs a pain to fit but worked fine but dont need to remove pump, replaced xs with greddy after a while - not as blingy looking
