QuoteSure, it’s beat, frayed and more than a little bit dirty, but this piece of Toyo Kogyo corporate literature, nearly three decades old, is perhaps one of my best garage sale finds. Not only does the piece go through the various Mazda-badged cars produced by the company, but also the company’s various industrial products and processes.
It’s somewhat amusing â€" and amazing â€" to see a company become it’s own city-state; Toyo in ’67 was virtually closed, with private housing for married couples employed with the company, as well as specialized “dormitories†for the unwed. Coupled with the sheer size and number of plants and facilities spread along the Hiroshima riverfront, it’s as if a socialist re-invented Henry Ford’s Rouge facility.
Sadly, the size and condition of the piece make it extremely difficult to scan on a conventional flatbed scanner, but I’ve tried to select some of the more interesting photos and historical vehicles for your amusement. Enjoy.

Cool !
I spent some time on that website (the one linked to in Source) - very good!
Thanks for that. Contrast those great new industrial buildings and transport links with our industry of that time - 40 years on we\'d still be arguing about that super river bridge seen in the distance. Or we\'d have a compromise lift bridge that stopped production twice a day!
