Title: It was still but after pulling it, it\'s now floppy!
Post by: RemarkLima on December 15, 2007, 01:11:19 PM
My door handles I\'m talking about here (what else could it be!) :D

Well, more specifically my passenger one on the outside, it was really stiff and would open but not easily, at first I thought it was my GF being a blouse but it really was bad, so after aimless taking the handle off, pulling thinsg about without a clue as to what, why or where it\'s now "floppy" and doesn\'t do bugger all, everything is connected at the handle end so I assume it\'s inside the door?

The inside handle is fine, just the outside... Any pointers appreciated!

I bet you\'ve broke the outside handle. Remove teh 2 10mm nuts and pull it from the door

I\'ve taken the door handle off already, and everything looked OK in there, but it went floppy when I put it back together, but then it seemed a bit odd anyway... I\'ll take it off again tomorrow in the light and have another look. Maybe disconnect it entirely and see if it moves freely without anything attached.

I may be in touch rob, but will let you know :D

The reason for the handle being stiff is: after age they start to return too far (not flush with the handle framework) this then takes the release arms too far & you have to force the handle whech results in the cast section snapping!! the way around this is: while the handle is off, lift the handle as if your opening the door, look at the cast mounting plate cut out (where your fingers go to open the door) you will see a small hole (about 1 - 2mm) if you put a rubber stopper in to this, it will stop the handle returning too far! this will eliminate difficult opening & snapping!!!

Cheers Jono, I may have done the damage already tho\' :( I\'ll see tomorrow.

But from the sounds of things, a replacement handle would also just be a straight swap out?

Same thing has happened to me today!! But the drivers side! Everything looks ok, the door opens from the inside but no joy from the outside - pull it and it just does nothing!. :(

I think I know what it is, you\'ll just need to replace the plasic handle as a whole unit, as in mine something snapped so the handle no longer levers the bits of metal inside, but seems easy enough to change over.

When I get round to doing mine I\'ll take some pictures as well.

HTH,
Mark
