Title: Multirotor bits...
Post by: Kaptainbalistik on December 14, 2007, 05:10:35 AM
Now im home with my own Gararge.....

Im toying with the Idea of an extra rotor or 2 ( Ive got enough bits floating around.....Including One Helllava Diff...And some quite silly wings and flares) Into the "Other " RX7.

So the hard part is the Eccentric shaft.

Short of the Guru shafts, Anyone else who has them and how big a chair will I need to sit into before hand?

I think Hurley made their own shaft when they created their RX777. I wonder if they still could make one?

Depending how you want to do it, you could have a look at the tractor pull world, i\'ve seen them litraly "bolt" two 13b engines together for high power success. Not entirely sure how realworld this would be though :Giggle

I\'ve often wondered about the possibility of getting two standard eccentrics machined so they could be fitted together to make an eccentric for a 4 rotor. Anyone got any drawings, pics, specs or anything for the custom shafts that have been made?

i htink that pics and specs will not be forthcomeing unfortunantly as they are hard work to produce an dthe people that \'can\' wont share as they make money from them. But if you keep on looking you will find a few places do make them. Hows about finding a dud 20b wiht a good eccentric shaft and building up an engine around that! would be an excellent project.
What diff do you have and flares etc????
  cheers, michael.

Very good point. I was meaning from people who are actually fortunate (rich) enough to have these things. I\'ll do some investigation...

The Quad rotor is pretty "easy", They use a Greek coupler to join the motors. So , yes, remachine the cranks to fit together is certanly possible .

That is how they do the "Barbie" BMW quad rotor drag car\'s motor at least! ( Frend of mine did some chassis work on it.)

Ive got Some RX7 MFR flares /wings / Spoiler and some Nice and healthy B2600 diff bits ( And a Supra gearbox )And about 4 motors......

Carl can get four rotor shafts made up no idea of a price though.

The Barbie car is a 3 piece crank for the 4 rotor,it is one full length shaft with two lobes each end that slide over to tapered couplings.
I have done the 2 joined 13b cranks about 10 years ago,but with the 3 piece it is a much stronger design.
We are doing 3 and 4 rotor eccentric shafts with the staionary gear mods at the moment, but don\'t have a price yet for it all.

Carl

I`ve done a bit of research on building a 4rotor but I wont have enough money for a few years yet. Here are a couple of links, I have more but they`re are lost in the depths of my favorites at the moment (note to self; make new folders)

Thanks Carl, Probably explains why they changed motor builders....

Ah, that makes sense. (/me puts on best columbo accent) Oh, and one last thing... Are the custom three piece shafts cast, billet, or forged?
