Title: MOT failure help please
Post by: carlos on December 13, 2007, 06:05:40 PM
Just had the rx MOTed and it failed on exhaust emissions being a tad to high!its a 99spec rx so i cant get away with the import pre 96 emissions, i took the cat out ages ago and threw it away ( i no dont say it )
at the moment it failed on

(8.21%) exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive

(843ppm) exhaust emissions hydrocarbon content after 2nd fast idle excessive

(0.81) emissions lamda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits

i have just been down there to have a play with the commander to reduce the fueling, which did drop it slighty but only by 1-1.5%

help as ive parked it up, swore and walked away!

with a 99spec u only have 2 options
1/find sympathetic mot tester
2/get new cat and run airpump as mazda intended
you will never get within the limits any other way
sorry to be bearer of bad news
at a push u might get away with a high flow knightsports/smb cat

hey carlos. what exhaust is it you have? i have a 3" cat converter which replaces the center section. its currently on my 92 R1 so i dont know if it will fit but im in norfolk, (near thetford) so not to far away from you. your welcome to use it and see if it makes a difference.
