Title: de-cat
Post by: tomrex on February 21, 2004, 07:03:56 PM
hello
whilst talking to various people i\'ve been advised to de-my exhaust to release more horses. whilst getting this done i\'d have an ECU and a map done at the same time to stop it going pop!
i\'ve got a stainless steen exhaust already but it is still running a cat so how much roughly am i looking for the by-pass pipe?
thanks!:)

Centre pipes come in at around the 100 quid mark.

My cat was "de-installed" with a broom handle, thus saving £s !

Anyone think there is a problem with doing that, other than emissions??

yes legally from a noise point of view yer boogered as any action to modify a standard exhaust which makes it noisier is illegal whereas buying a stupidly loud one as standard isn\'t (necessarily) (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/edoom/puppy_dog_eyes.gif) but hey they gota catch you first & know the full story but just stating the law as i understand it from when i looked into the loud exhaust thing ;)

I just passed an MOT with no cat, but I didnt think they would bother checking emissions so I was ok.

I do still have the cat though anyway, I just didnt want hassle.

Mine has no cat and a stupidly-loud-as-standard :evillaugh Blitz NUR Spec exhaust.

It does get through the MOT, although the last couple of years I\'ve had to temporarily whack the idle speed up and fiddle with the little air control screw thing under the throttle elbow thing (technical terms there) to get the emissions down enough - not forgetting to return them to their starting positions of course.

Bit of a thread hijack here, but what else do you have to do when de-catting a FD3?

Do you need a fuel cut defender to raise the the fuel cut limit in the ECU?

Any extra fuelling or anything like that?

As far as i know, you need a whole new ECU in the FD.  piggybag ECU\'s dont work.

There are piggy back ECU\'s around, the ECU of choice and most easily mapped over here are Apexi PFC\'s

If you are decatting then you probably should get a downpipe as well to stop it being the restrictive part of the system

@tomrex

I take it you have the stock twins and an aftermarket ECU.

If I was asked this question, I would say be very careful not to create a exhaust system that over-whelms the stock wastegate.

Either do.

1. Decent flowing aftermarket downpipe, cat back system, high flow cat - MAX!

2. Change to single turbo and fit the biggest friggin draine pipe without any problems apart from the boy\'s in blue.

If you have no aftermarket ECU do.

1. Down pipe, cat back and leave the cat well alone.

2. Buy an ECU
