Hello.
Was just curious what would be the top price you would pay for fortune bodykit if you would want to get one including installation and painting.
I personaly would pay more then 5k for it.
Interested to get others opinion.
Maz
?
The bodykit alone is something like 7k-8k so I\'m not quite sure that I understand your question?
That said, you\'ll find that opinions on the Fortune kit are a tad, erm, divided...
I know what the price of the actual bodykit is but whatis the absolut max price would you pay if you could pay less.... in other words for example if someone told you can have it for 6k including installation would you pay that? if not whats the maximum you would?
maz
well if you could get it done for 6k then why would you want to pay more :s i have seen the kit for £6k at the lowest and probs about 2-3k to get it fitted
i think he is asking what do you think it is worth fitted.
I which case i wouldn\'t pay more than £3k.
You couldn`t pay me to put that kit on my car.
But each to their own
Personaly I think it would be in the couple of hundred rather than thousands as I think the kit totaly detroyes the flowing lined of the rex!! Then you have to think about the few grand for wide rims!!
Jono
not sure i really understand what your asking....but if the kit is say 6k..from my experiance expect to pay at least 4k to get it fitted and painted from a proper place....theres alot of work involved and this would be an inside out paint job and alot of people go two tone which means more time(more money)... you would also need to cut away inner rear qtrs to allow for wheel clearance..a set of custom split rims 2k min, new exhaust, custom rear panel to allow you to take your bulbs out of the rear lights, a set of coilovers etc.....just buy one done....was one on ebay starting at 12k...if your saying you could have a genuine kit supplied, fitted and painted for 6k then i\'d say that was an effing bargain...

well. I know a guy who sells it in uk for 4k. which brings me to the question whether there is any market for copies.
Thought there was something behind that initial question!
Copying the kit would be a waste if you ask me. The real money is in fitting the kit well and then painting it and ancillaries such as wheels to match. Would you really want to save a few ££s on the kit and end up with a potentially inferiour copy version, when you still have to spend a fortune (pardon the pun) on the other bits and knowing you own the fake?

I am not in any sort of auto business at this point so my questions wasnt related to any sort of profit etcs. Someone I know just aprouched me and asked me if I want to get in to Auto industry and start doing bodykits, bodyworks, spraying etc... so I was curious if there is a marked for it. And to be honest being an owner of an RX7 I would never pay 6k+ for a bodykit if I can get a copy of it for 3k and just make its done well. That was the whole intention of the question.
best regards
Maz
Problem is - most copies suck....
There are a couple of companie who make good stuff... e.g. Seibon and ShineAutoProject... but they are few and far betwen.
There is someone in the US that does copies of these and they are hidiuosly bad, i think they we\'re around the 4K mark??? Not sure.
Persoanlly i would never buy really cheap copies as they crack/don\'t fit/take ages to make fit. When you consider that the fortunkit replaces all bar the roof you want a well made kit and veilside are one of the best people at it.
Personally I hated the kit on the orange one in fast and furious, then I saw one in a gunmetal colour and it changed my opinion on them...... slightly!
Otherwise.........

I am with Chris on this one, there is so much other money to spend that it doesnt make sense to have a copy kit

Looks like someone has either done this or knows someone who has ;) you have to have done the kit to know about the lights ;)

not really done one....but as im a bodyworker by trade its the kind of thing you pick up on....weve done other wide bodies before but that looks like a monster job to do...looks from your avatar you have spent some proper money on yours....mine will be done soon....single turbo, burnout kitted etc...cheers
TBH i disagree with all copy kits. How would you feel if you design such a nice kit and someone came along and produced it a half the price not to mention half the quality?
I personaly try to always buy genuine items.
why would you want to make a replica of the fortune kit an still tag it at £3k plus the only way you\'d get a remotly good fit would be to purchase the real kit an mould from that which means spend spend spend but never really get it back..........if you and your mate want to get into something why not just concentrate on fitting an spraying rather that making??!!
Just my 2p
I agree, a copy willnever fit the same

just had my REAL fortune kit arrive friday from veilside USA. seeing the kit it wil be virtually impossible to copy it well. The finish on the original is amazing. its smooth as glass! the headlights are carbon as us the front splitter. many pieces are several layers laminayed together to get the shape - ie the rear tail gate is an absolute work of art. IF it was faked and IF the quality was the same it would end up costing in man hours what it costs from the states.
with the exchange rate think the kit cost me 4k tops anyway or something like that.
also someone made the point about the wheels... they are 3 by19 and 12 by 19s. these cost 000s! and tyres are 235 35 ZR19s. so again your looking at £500 per tyre approx.
i dont think its worth making a fake.
i agree with jamie on this....and hey guys next year us 3 will be the only 3 people in the uk to own rx7 fortunes!!!
XMN - can i have your number plz? as i have many question about fitting this!
you doing the fortune kit or another, what colour you painting it. have you had good/bad experiences with HOK paints?

I didnt fit it mate, I used a garage to do the job for me. I guess your doing this one yourself?
if you want to email me its cervenec@hotmail.co.uk

Tbh I think you would have to be insane to spend a couple of grand on a copied kit, it will never be the same quality and if you had enough money to buy the copy, fit and paint it and spend around 5k on the wheels then your probably not the kind of person who would try save a few quid buying an inferior copy
its not just getting the proper kit thos is it !! getting it fitted right is the most important thing. Id be proper ****ed off it i had got the kit, then had it fitted only to find it was done ****....
which rims you getting?

HOK are good but very expensive...You need to be a very good painter to get the colours to go on without getting any shades in the paint(Kandys)..and if u get it wrong its gonna cost u big as most HOK colours work on ground colours that change the way the top coats look...screw up the top coat and you will have to reapply the ground as if you were starting from scratch....
The painting procedure basically treats the car as one big panel so u have to walk the side of the car edge to edge when painting...this differs from normal pearls and metallics where you can paint panel by panel...your overlaps are also different as well as having to be consistent in your application method....gun pressures and spray patterns have to be spot on unlike standard pearls and mets where there is a greater margin of error...My advice on Painting HOK is go to someone who has done them before and uses them all the time.....i am building a burnout widebody not a Veilside so is a fair bit easier...
ran into the matching problem already. which has put a spanner in the works at the mo :(
what colour you doing yours, I went for the std sunset/back option

i am doing mine a ducati bike colour...it is a pearl orange..a bit easier to paint than the HOK paints...i chose it over 4 years ago when i painted the egine bay...however as i have fitted the engine and all the other bits i will continue and finish it in that colour.....however if i was to do another car it would probably be a pearl white maybe off the rx8 or possibly the new lambo...if your having problem matching its probably because your trying to blow in.....you may have to do the panel edge to edge...but you need to know how the colour was originally painted...what ground colour, how many coats were applied etc...you will have to paint a few test cards and use the best one as a guide...cheers
mine is going to be piano key black on the recessed parts and pearl white on the other pannels. i have got i forge deep dish chromes 9 by 19s on the front and 12 by 19s on the rear. tyres were a problem. had to stretch 195/35zr19s over the backs!
If you like unusual and the ultimate wheel, have a look at these Carbon Fibre wheels.

u are joking right....can u even buy 195 35 19 tyres..and how the hell can u stretch these overs 12s...no one in this country could do that....and why would u need to stretch that much...didn\'t the guy from iforged build a veilside fortune nsx and rx7? Nice colour combo u have chosen though..
195/35/19 how the hell did they manage that over 12" my mate struggled to get 215/35 over 8" you got any pics mate this i gotta see!!! If your running such a thin tyre width whats your grip like as your only using 195 width which is mainly used on 6-7" width wheel?!
Jay
surely thats a typing error?? he must mean 295/35/19!
jamies words and pics on the site me and him go on!!
next i ordered the wheels. they are hand made I forge split rims. they had to be shipped in from the states.
they are 12" by 19".
tyres are off a lamborghini marcialago and had to be stretched over

lol yes 295 in the picture but even that they look like theyll explode on a bump bloody hell
ive only just noticed that the tyres are nowere near the edge of the rims! sorry jamie but they do look strange
now thats a tight tyre fitment looks slightly odd but i bet once fitted on a LOW anWIDE rex they\'d look the dogs long ones....lol:rollin
i think id be more bothered about the tyres blowing out!
