Just got back from the mapping session at CPL, wow in one fail swoop all my problems are cured!
I now have no boost spikes thanks to a decent map, i now have 40 bhp more power due to changing my plugs and leads and I even have a hand controller that works (swapped mine with Geff)
Big thanks to Geff and the guy at CPL (sorry forgotten his name already) and Jay for sorting it out - a great day.
Also got a test drive in CPL\'s Honda Civic Type R with a few mods - they r now my second favourite car!
My power run was 235 HP at the wheels.
Top man Graham good news.
Do you know hwat it was on the map that was causing the boost spike ? a bit suprised it was something map related rather than something on the car itself.
I bet it feels like you got a new car again:D

It was an hour and a half drive back with the biggest grin on my face! Yes its like a completley different car.
Not sure what was causing the boost spikes but it was set to 1 bar, its now set to 0.8. As Geff said \'it was all over the place\'.
Glad to hear you enjoyed your drive back!! Get a decent run on ya way back? Some very good bits of road out that way!
I\'m now looking for an APEXi for mine to solve my boost spikes and also have my exhaust decatted - oh no! not more money!:(
Ben
What did the single turbo get?
Glad you had a result Grahame. A good day I thought. Joel\'s single made 312 atrw but was bein held back by the exhaust Geff said.
Cheers Jay....:wave
Graham,
I think changing the plugs and leads had the most significant impact on smoothing your boost pattern. As I now know the Apexi is not great at controlling boost.
What did Phil\'s car get?
Kevin
A year ago I got 217 at the wheels with a stock car, but with a volatile boost spiking to 14psi on the first turbo and 11.5 psi on the second turbo. I now have an Apexi but still have volatile boost, we were able to hook up a boost controller today and achieve 215.6 with a much flatter boost curve, 12 psi on first turbo and a flat 10psi on the second. Turning up the boost achieved little with the stock exhaust identified as the bottleneck. Now need to free up the exhaust and turn up the boost.
Kevin:)
i would have thought that changing the plugs and leads and plugs would have cured the boost probs but i spoke to Geff before he did that work and he said he had sorted the boost but the plugs/leads were causing a lack of power?
I stand corrected then :o

Yeah, exhaust and the fact thats its a stock ported motor. Sounded very strong and curves were very nice. 58K miles and counting Mr Kelly ;-)
Nice to meet you guys btw.
I left at about 7.30, Phil was taking it very easy with his car, hope Guy didnt want to get home early!!
BTW, the few of you that saw my engine bay looking a bit minging; the 20B in it is a dummy, the motor that will be used is ported with 3mils and will be shiney not covered in crap! :)
R the pics going up on the forum or do banzai get first dibs?

Was nice to meet you guys. It was very interesting to see a single turbo with similar power on the rollers, the thing I noticed was the difference in power delivery - the single is sooo much smoother, with the twin the power comes on so much more aggresivley.
All in all a very satisfactory day for you guys and for Geff 1st time I\'ve seen him with a smile on his face:D
An excellent day out by all accounts - good to meet all of you.
I am currently in the throes of getting hold of a decent mid-pipe, and am keen to get back to CPL asap. Ben, Kevin, do you have any strong preferences for dates? When do you expect to be ready to go back?
Car was making 245atw when I arrived (7psi base boost on external wastegate) and 312 (ahem, 312.9!) when I left. I cannot believe how quick it is! Flooring it in 2nd and third is truly terrifying.
Rich, I hear you - I\'m saving away for a rebuild, just need to get a new rear wing, new mid-pipe, new radiator, pay for the bodywork....;)
Cheers,
Joel

Nooo! keep it smooth dude! I think your car in white looks great as is.
To all those that went to CPL, bare in mind that Geff was there to tune your car for good power but more over driveability and durability; it will be richer and running less advance than it could do which is where a lot of power can be released. BUT obviously the more you try and extract from it, the harder a life it will have - and the quicker you will be at the \'shop waiting on a rebuild :)
If you want to push more power then Geff will be happy to discuss I\'m sure, you just need to appreciate what the trade offs are.
Look forward to next time, hopefully a bit warmer!
Joel,
I am awaiting some parts which will need to be fitted. I also have holiday in March, I think it\'ll be April before I\'m ready.
Thanks
Kevin
