My FD is starting to get to the point where it is going to need to have a rebuild. While it\'s in I am thinking about having some modifications carried out.
I want to keep the car a quiet and subtle. So I was thinking of installing a performance panel filter to the stock airbox, a high flow cat with the standard back box and a Power FC to manage the fueling/ boost and ignition duties.
What sort of power gains can I reasonably expect to get with this setup without running it on the limits? and how much would this reduce the engines life expectancy ?
Thanks for reading
I\'d also add a downpipe into the mix, and possibly a reasonably quiet exhaust (I\'ve got a Racing Beat cat-back in mine).
It does uncork the engine nicely, and together with an appropriately mapped engine, my guess is you\'ll see another 40+ hp. And that\'s without cranking up the boost or any porting, either.
Apexi PFC, Twin induction kit, hard pipes and alloy ast, de-catted = 280rwhp @ 0.8bar for example.
Panel filter will restrict that a bit, high-flow cat will restrict some more
panel filter wont restrict it....................the air box will but it will be cold air as opposed to the hot air in as you will with mushroom filters.
if your rebuilding anyway you might as well get a little porting done at the same time, if you have a search around there is a lot of info on the approximate power figures you can get with what mods.

ps there is nothing wrong with the standard ast! i run one and i have around 400+hp atw.
Hi
Thanks for all the replys. Just trying to absorb as much info as I can to make an decision before I send her in.
What would it take to get her up to the 300bhp mark? It\'s my daily drive, so any modifications must leave it useable.
Really want to keep as subtle as possible aswell.
300 at the wheel or at the flywheel?
assume stock twins ? fueling wants checking - uprated pump & injectors to make sure you dont risk running lean are important, maybe a boost controller whilst its in the garage.
Oh 300bhp at the flywheel would be fine (Well for now :-))
My car is a completely standard Jap import at the moment on stock twins. Can the Apexi PFC control the turbo/ boost system?
I can see my money dissappearing before my eyes

(Well for now :-)) - for now never last long do as much as you can in one go cheaper fitting/mapping all at once, boost controller real useful get that & fuel upgrades done so no boost spikes likely - should push past 300 fly comfortably, mines 360 FWHP 305 RWHP with pump/injectors/apexi/boost controller/greddy IC all on and thats a safe map (for now ;) )
If it helps ive got the following which gives 316 bhp at the fly and a safe map (0.8 bar):
GReddy down pipe
Straight thro mid-pipe
Back box
Uprated SMIC
Filters
Alu AST
Apexi Power FC
GReddy Profec B Spec II boost controller
HTH
Chris
p.s. probs going for fueling upgrades and a bit of porting myself when its rebuilt in spring time :)
If you stay with the panel filter go for the K&N replacement, supposed to make quite good changes with correct mapping.
The quality of the map and how safe it is can all depend on who maps it. This isn\'t a dig at any of the tuners but some will map closer to the limit if you want more power.

** double post**
iv got sutle mods on myn its just the exhaust that makes it loud :rollin
Street port
Hks induction kit
silenced de cat
Nur spec exhaust
Boost controller
Fuel pump
And a Apexi PFC............
Well did have till it reset its self back to standard while up at pips and iv had 2 ECU\'s now and his importers have got quite a few from other vehicles too inc skylines ,scoobies so im back on standard with no boost for the time been while hes chasing apexi.
Otherwise i made 320bhp at the fly .8bar
