Title: Arch Rolling / suspension raising Advice needed
Post by: m4drx on December 06, 2007, 11:19:16 AM
Hi guys,

I have recently gone from 17s to 18s on the car and now i have rubbing, it rubs more to the rear but is very evident... what do i do?

I have hks coilovers and i thought it may be an idea or perhaps better to raise it and stiffen it? only problem with this is that i dont have the c spanners and i think it may be a case of trial and error as raising it a little may not work and then it will mean doing it again!

Other option i thought would be to raise/roll the arches so i wanted some feedback on that if you guys have any?

I have only found 1 place that does it near me R tech you all may know and ive seen thier work on Marks car (who has the same wheels) and it is superb. They want 80+ vat just for the rears though? should i get the front done?

can anyone suggest anywhere else perhaps, prices, experiences about the above?

Wheels are 18" Ultralites 9.5J rear and 8.5J front, Rear is rubbing evidently.

Sizes are 225/40/18 and 255/35/18.

any help appreciated.

if you go down the rought of arch rolling.... make sure you ram pleanty of underseal, waxoil, or what ever you use in the resulting water trap as you will then have a U shape around the top of the wheel arch instead of a L which will retain all the mud & cr@p off the roads, which as you know will increase the issues of rust!!! got to do mine over the winter!!

i have exact same wheels /tyres but hav no rubbing what offset are they as this will determine rubbing
how much of the tyre is getting caught
raise coilovers bu 15mm ans see if it cures it

Also the camber of the rear wheels will have an effect also.

offset is 35 and 40 i think. Ive heard this isnt the best but saying that its the only ofset they do right?

My rears rub - suprisingly as the front is LOW but only on the outside edge (arch) i think. I think my car is generally lower than stock so this may aid the rubbing.

My 17s did not rub at all no matter how i drove.

also the back ones do stick out a fair bit so literally in line with the edge of the arch. I also think the cambe is slightly out. Top in bottom out if that makes any sense.

thanks

That\'s how it should sit mate.... the measurment between the inner edge at the top should be less than the measurment at the bottom!! although, it\'s well worth geting a laser alignment done!!

Got a photo?
Personally i love the agressive slightly sticky outy look - make the car fit the wheels, i say :D

//www.archenemy.co.uk did my last car, and did a good job too  for a very good price, he\'s near you too. Phil is an honest bloke and will take as long as you need :) He\'s based near Welwyn Garden City but will travel a bit :)

Its as close as they do which is why they\'d say they were correct. Stock offset is 45 or 50 all round. The set I had on one of mine rubbed massively under hard cornering. If you pootle about all the time and/or dont do any track days you probably wont have too much of a problem. Maybe.

Aye, thats cause the offset it too little :)

Roll the arches and/or if you are doing a lot track days go more agressive on the camber so the rubber is \'tucked under\' the arch more :P

will probably do both, a friend on here mark does loads of track days as you know and has the same wheels which is making me think with the right rolling i could sort it.

gonna have a bash anyway as they look amazing :InLove but must be usable! esp on track.

Thats what I used, fine if you arent too worried about remedial paint work (which I wasnt :))

If I was worried about the paint then I\'d gladly pay 50-100 per arch to have them done perfectly by pros.
