Nice!

Just as abit of an off topic, but if you remove the rear bumper, do you have to remove the plastics inside the boot?  If so how much of them do you have to remove?  It\'s just im going to have my kit fitted next year and i\'d rather remove all the plastics myself, to save me money and to prevent someone breaking them taking them out and putting them back.

Post by: interloper393 on December 05, 2007, 08:47:23 PM
well the rear plastics are in 3 pieces, the front part which covers the rear washer bottle and  the sides which are a kinda pain to remove, the sides are held in with 10mm nuts n to remove fully the rear strut bar needs to come off and so do the rear seats i think.. i just remove the nuts and bend the plastics a bit n squeez me hand in lol.. the rear bumpers held on with 8 star screws and 3 nuts each side :)

looking good man. im dreading respraying mine in the new year. washed it the other day to find the entire car covered in micro blisters so its gonna need to go bare metal and start again. gutted. hopefully i\'ll be able to work on it in between jobs in work and get it done in a proper booth.

you look like you\'ve got everything under control but if you need a hand with anything gimme a shout. im a spray painter to trade and only up in east kilbride

next mission was the spats.. fook sake these we`r a mare lol.. they curved right under the car so there now cut in half lol.. was fidly but got there in the end..
The side angle looks good because the skirts line up to the same level n go well i reckon :D:yes

Iv already riped it all of and now the diffuser has been bonded n fiber glass to the rear bumper.. it will be filled then the whole rear end will be flushed in and looking like a 1 piece effort.. :King

too be honest if u remove most of the parts u cn paint 60% of the engine bay, i done this with me gtr32 n came up great.
Title: N4bes Respray Project... watch him cry :D
Post by: interloper393 on December 12, 2007, 03:56:53 PM
once iv finished blending in the other side i`ll prime that side then do the full car again before i start sanding it all bck, a good coat of primers the key to a faultless finish i reckon, also you cn use the primer as filler for small imperfections saving u the hassle of using filler, easy to apply and easyer to sand bck once dry.

i aint telling u anything chump! :Grrr

lol... nah only shops use ovens to speed things up, because i use 2k paint u add hardners and thinners, also u cn add a extra thingy to speed up the curing process.. mines touch dry in an hour, i use a heater to keep the temps kinda normal when i cn be bothered lol..

The dust issue.. your never guna get a perfect finish, throwing a bucket of water down keeps any dust from floating around.. im building a spray section in my garage once it`s clear and its going to be dust free :yes

All the painting works after its been painted.. u  needs to rub down and buff up usually to get the show room shine.

lol, awesome, i was toying with the idea of setting up a gazebo\'esque tent in my front yard to respray my \'7 with the kit on it, would that + a couple of extractor fans keep it relatively dust free?

fans tend to just blow it about everywhere lol.. if u prep it outside and just use that to paint in then it`ll be fine bud :)

hahah in the same boat bud but i\'m just going to watch films instead LOL, when you say the finish won\'t be perfect, in what way d\'ya mean?
Title: N4bes Respray Project... watch him cry :D
Post by: interloper393 on January 02, 2008, 01:55:47 AM
you always (well i do) need to wet sand the paint bck once finished with 2000grit wet n dry paper, then once all the imperfections are removed and the paintwork is smooth you use an electric buffer with g3 and polish the sanded dull paint bck to a mirro shine, then u have a perfect paintjob. all sprayers use g3 or similar afterwards... some are better at getting the finish than others lol.

never removed the windows bud, just the doors n tailgate.. 10 min job for all of it lol.

Should of added this earlyer bud seeing as alot of people seem to be going down the same road as me then i think it needs to be said.
I always use a air fed mask as this 2k stuff is toxic n a kill u plus always spray in a closed area with an exstractor fan to remove most of the fumes and stop the fumes going airborn.
Usually i dont paint cars, just the odd bumper/wing ect that needs reparing, Neils cars really a one off as its alot of work.. plus got a good deal on his mazdaspeed seats lol..

just my 2p :)

Which knightsports bumper is it.. think they are numbered 1 - 6 or something?

Ill have a wee look at it tonight and you can let me know a rough price for fitting and painting a mazdaspeed spoiler (currently in black), pair of sideskirts (dont know which yet) and your bumper. I know yellow is hard to match but you can do your best mate!

Hi mate, looks gooood..
just finished spraying a rear bumper on these Microcab hydrogen car things (www.microcab.co.uk (http://www.microcab.co.uk)) myself. Noticed you said you use 1200 on one post then 2000 grit to colour sand the paint? We only had 800 the other day so I used that then spend about 20 min on each area polishing scratch marks out the b**tard thing!

Also interested to see you\'re using Farecla products too.. I was using G3 to polish the paint up, but after a few days of hardening the 2k was taking too long to polish. One trip down the local paint store and I had some G4 (\'especially for high solid colours\'), still not quite as effective as I\'d liked! So anyway ended up getting some G6 (allegedly the most abrasive) and still kinda slow.
I\'m used to polishing soft cellulose so water by itself is almost good enough for that!

Anyway its good to read your experiences, sounds like you have the same approach to spraying as me. I\'ve been adding a bit more thinners to my paint and upping the air pressure a bit and I\'m getting closer to the point where everything flows together nicely that I almost dont need to flat and polish it! (-except for the crappy extractor fan leaving it full of dust and crap!)

Post by: interloper393 on May 17, 2008, 11:20:04 PM
polishing is by far the worst part, u never get the shine back really once its sanded, im at the point now where i cn 2000grit sand it and it`s taking half the time it used to, but i dont get orange peel anymore and more a mirror shine, im self taught tho so im still learning lol
i use g3 but i think g6 is far better n quicker, at the end of the day its to remove the scratches so i also poorboys machine polish the car afterwards anywho, this also removes any fine scratches left lol but garunteed you`ll always see a mark u missed once its polished lol
Title: N4bes Respray Project... watch him cry :D
Post by: BenLewisMav on May 19, 2008, 02:22:21 AM
Is poorboys machine polish similiar/equivalent to G10 or Farecla Machine Glaze?
Title: N4bes Respray Project... watch him cry :D
Post by: interloper393 on May 19, 2008, 08:07:05 AM
erm kinda, theres a few stages i use, its far less messy than g3 cus u dont use water, its just a cutting compound.. u start with a 2.5, then 2 then 1 then a final polish, best stuff u cn buy in my eyes bud..2.5 is for really badly mareked paintwork.
