do you think using one of these kits but not onto intercooler but onto the coolant radiator for track days or middle of summer.
if it dropped the temp by a few deg` it would help wouldnt it.
any thoughts????????????
oh yes it\'ll definately help! anything that cools the engine and intake can help, but if its for racing I think cooling the intake would be better than radiator.... could do both!:D
I have heard this has been with varying levels of success in the states on the FD. The results in terms of cooling charge temp and coolant was very impressive. The only problem they had was that some Nitrous made it\'s way into the intake and leaned the engine right out.
I often thought that perhaps CO2 would be better, but don\'t know what the side effects would be if it found it\'s way into the intake....also CO2 is much cheaper and more readily available.
In fact there is a skyline I know that runs CO2 to cool his intercooler. I always wondered what the SodaStream bottle was for......and if it makes a squoosh noise when he hits the button.:D
your right. co2 would be loads cheaper. im gonna make some call`s:cool
How about using something like the STI Impreza\'s use, an intercooler water spray. If Subaru in their wisedom use just good old water to drop the temp, it must be ok!
don\'t forget you need to display a compressed gas warning sticker to be legal :rollin
Mike
The Subaru\'s and Mitsi EVO\'s have been using spray systems for years.
I would rather go with a water injection setup. More consistant!
Fish
has noone rigged a DIY intercooler spray then i know a number of people who\'ve doen it on scoobies etc hmmm tempting

Si
Running CO2 would be far more efficient for cooling temps than water spray. I would have thought it would be good for the strip since you will suffer alot of heat soak while you are in the que. IMHO
It\'s about now that I admit I am not an expert on things automotive. I personally would be happy running CO2 on the intercoller but I would be careful about spraying on the radiator. It could cause damage to the metal of the core..... think about the expanding and contracting as the temps go up and down.
Intercooler doesn\'t get as hot as the radiator so probably less of an issue.
Like I said I ain\'t an expert....just some food for thought.
Might be worth looking at the ERL/Aquamist (http://www.aquamist.co.uk) website.
Loads of techie stuff, but also written in laymens terms.

DEI a company in the usa do a kit of parts exactly for this purpose; a bottle kit (i think 10lb this is the same size as a normal nitrous bottle) and three cooling attachments, 1. a fuel bar. fuel passes thru a lump of aluminium like a fuel rail but with extra runners for the co2, 2. an egg. this is not the correct name for it but when you see it you\'ll understand why i call it that, this is fitted in the inlet pipe and cools the air as it flows by, 3. the spray bar exactly the same as a nitrous spray bar. i think all the bits are sold individually.
items 1 and 2 do not allow the co2 out to atmosphere and are intended for use with item 3.
i can\'t think of the website for DEI but they also make thermotech exhuast wrapping and turbo blankets etc, and i know they are imported by nimbus motorsport.
If you pluck up the courage to buy a Max Power they have a Co2 kit in the New stuff section, i\'ll dig it out when I get home and post up the details to save you the embarrasment of buying the mag!
Isn\'t the Aquamist website for actual water injection - not for an external spray.
Take a look at http://www.elabtronics.com/ . It\'s an aussie based company if I remember right. Check out the Intercooler spray controller on their products page.
Quite a while since I read up on it, but IIRC the control mechanism was quite intelligent, with it monitoring your injectors to see how long they are staying open and anticipating when the spray will be needed. In effect it figures out when you are driving hard and cools the intercooler before the warm air goes through. This is apparently a lot more effective than spraying after the intercooler heats up.
It\'s not medium specific - you can fit the hosing and nozzles to spray whatever you want. Water is obviously cheapest. CO2 fills are definitely cheap (I used to be a paintballer) and you can always fill them at the local paintball shop. You should find that it\'s easier to get the rental places to rent you a bottle of CO2 than nitrous as well.
The same controller can apparently be rigged for a brake cooling system as well if you are after track mods.
There was an article on the net somewhere, but I\'ve lost the link and I\'m too lazy to google search it at the moment. It was on some aussie online car mag.
dont no if this will help seen this kit a few times, nice and cheap
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=43120&item=2461985615
this guy apears to sell loads of nitros bits n bobs
Right, i have trawled throught the mag and found the kit I was talking about (sorry it took so long, i kept getting distracted by all the \'pink or brown?\' \'face or boobs?\' questions:D )
Its the Cryogen Kit from Nimbus Motorsport (http://www.nimbusmotorsport.com)
CO2 system which can be fitted to either the induction system to cool air intake, intercooler spray, or into a fuel bar which has a -80C chamber that removes heat from the fuel, or I presume a combination of the above.
£340 for the kit + £142 air intake, £112 fuel bar, £77-89 \'cooler spray
b rilliant magazine that hey!!!!!!!
thanks for the info. that sounds like it would be quite good for the rad cooling.
my coousin comes home from uni every month with the latest max power.over half of the mag was adverts.. still trying to convert him to decent magazines. instead of corsa`s with 20" WHEELS THAT CLAIM 0 TO `100 IN 6 SECONDS.. 7 tv screens and 20 million watt stereo.
lol, know what you mean, main reason i buy it is for all the adverts though, and they seem to be featuring a rex nearly every month at the moment, albeit ones with 1308cc per rotor ( annoying!)
They had a lovely rex in there a couple of months ago that had c-west kit made entirely of carbon fibre
was that the blue one with carbon wings etc. if it was i quickly saw that one. bit that let it down was the gaps around the wings etc IM really fussy about things like that:p
Yeah that was the one, mainly blue. Didn\'t notice the gaps!
Why don\'t you just look at getting a more efficient intercooler? In Oz, there aren\'t that many people even running water injection. Just a bloody good intercooler/cooling system etc.
By the time you have spent your money on one of the NO2 kits - you are half way to doing a proper intercooler set-up, one that you install and forget about.
if your read firstpost i said could it be used on the raditor to help lower coolat temperatures during track days
Just found this thread by accident , I\'m actually in the process of fitting a CO2 system to my car , well actually it\'ll be N2O to start with as there was a mix up in ordering the bottle and they filled it with N2O instead of CO2
Harris2182 - did you fit a kit ?? if so how did you get on ??
I have done this at RSII. Not all that good really. My new set up is far better. /the spray bar is frowned upon on the strip and all a bit hit and miss.

Dont think many people noticed the red pipe sticking out of the fornt of the car :chat
