Its possible to do an auto to manual conversion, so I assume its possible to convert an auto to a manual, but.. there are differences in the rear housing?
What are the differences and does it restrict the use of certain gearboxes?
I have a manual 13b and I would like to put an autobox on it.. do I need to rebuild the engine and change the rear housing of the engine? Assuming I have got the other required parts - eg counter weight, flex plate etc...
Thanks,
James
you WANT to put an auto on it
i bet you anyone would happy swap you all your manual stuff for auto stuff
yea, that would be the better option and probably the way to do it.. I suppose the question was a bit more "in theory" :)
There may be an engine up for grabs in january then... The problem is though, its rebuilt in as far as I can tell by RX Heaven, and just completed its run in period.. but because of their rep, I wouldnt want to vouch for its quality...
you need to change the rear housing ifyou are putting a auto box on it.
I thought that might be the answer...
Cheers,
James
Rear Plates are the same for Auto\'s and Manuals.
no they are not... the rear plates are slightly different. I think one of the bell housing bolts doesnt line up and the starter motor bit is slightly off.
but its ok to swap an auto for a manual..
strange ;)

The S1 RX7 and earlier are definetly the same ( Got one in bits!). The starters are different ( bigger), But I think there is an Extra Bolt on some 13B\'s. You usually try to grab an Auto starter for your rallycar due to the size!
