Oh my God!!
Well lads i\'ve just come into work more awake than i\'ve ever been lol
Basically I was drive to work this morning and I was near here after a 25 mins open road drive (Early drives miss the traffic!!) when I was on the final dual carriageway which I turn left into my works entrance.
I was doing around 65 when a civic was going slow, so i rounded her. The turbo was off spool and the car past without needing to accelerate when my backend just went from under me:confused:
I\'m sure we\'ve all been in a few crashes in are time so I was fighting the steering like FOOK to correct it - after 200meters of fishtailing I ended up pulling the hand brake and going right into a gap on the other carriageway.
I did clip the Kerb in between and had a look around but could see anything marks etc so HOPEFULLY it was just a lucky escape!!
Plus I dont know what caused it as either I hit OIL or something I dont know. I do know my rear pillow ball joint is knocking but i\'m not sure that could do it???????????
But anyway these RX\'s really are Lethal in the Wet!!
Lucky escape there, thank god nothing worse happened.
A similar thing happened to me 3 months after buying mine, but at much lower speeds, fortunately for me. mine was more like 20mph, but for no apparent reason they backend came out and fishtailed across the road and damaged the front chin spoiler and cracked the rad. But, if we\'re all to have one accident in our RX\'s, then lets make them ones where no, or little, damage occurs.
Nothing would suprise me.
Chloe was driving her KA on the M25 last year we were doing a fair lick when all of a sudden the car just started violently swaying. She managed to hold on to it, and when we pulled over, I could not see any damage or a reason why.
Drove car slower after that, and a couple of days later got car booked in. Changed 1 rear tire with the smallest of defects, hard to see. and a couple of bushes.
Never happened again, maybe bushes or tire. Or maybe just a freak occurance.
Glad your ok.

Please dont tell me you are still using the crap Jap tires on her, poeple just dont realise how bad they are.
Fishtailing or stepping out is not charactoristic of these cars.
Well i\'ll drive like a girl until the bush is sorted just incase - come on payday!!!
Well I have new tyres all around so hopefully that\'s nothing to do with it - even though they aint the best tyres on the market.

Its worth spending money on tyres... the difference between cheap plasticky ones and good ones is emmense!!
get yerself some Eagle F1 or something!
^ What he said! Remember they\'re really the most important thing on a car, their the only bit which has contact with the road! Everything hinges off the tyres you run...
...Saying that, I\'m loving my jap crap tyres in the weather! But then I drive like a granny on the roads as well, so it\'s nothing high speed at all.
i remember something similar happening to me not long after i bought mine, my arse was twitching like a rabbits nose, even though i survived unscathed!
just watch it mate theres always someone who writes their car off this time of year as the roads are greasy..
Yup my arse was twitching like no tomorrow - luck I didnt shut off as it would have been game over!!

Mine was due to crap jap spec tyres. It really is amazing how much of a difference putting UK spec tyres on makes. Much, much, much better. I bet a lot of FD accidents are due to jap tyres. Mine was.
Also at this time of the year look out for ice and snow .......... I agree that F1\'s are the best all round tyres but they have NO grip in the snow.
Happy skiing.

lucky with no damage bud, I know exactly what you are talking about

Oh, the story of the jap tyres again. They are great in the dry, absolute hopeless in the wet. I had the backend twitch and fishtail as i exited an island on jap tyres in the wet. Luckily i was doing about 15mph, but i very very nearly hit a car overtaking me. 200meters of twitching must have been very scary Get those pillowbushes replaced on both sides, dont just do one side. Common problem on these cars. Mine are gone too and the handling and stability has gone to sh!t
:-( so doing 1 is a bad idea is it - dam i\'m skint at the moment aswel
Yes, remember these cars are upto 15 years old, and you need balance, which doing one side may not achive, I also doubt that you have just one, if they are all old, you will probably have a few that should get attention.
Had a reminder on monday night to treat driving our cars with respect...
Chasing a boxster s (not a fair \'fight\' really but them\'s the breaks), WOT in 2nd and I suddenly stopped accelerating - revs rose sharply as did noise and the wheels completely broke traction. Completely dry road but ~7C air temp so quite cold.
Fortunately in a streight line so no big drama until the tyres found some grip and I nearly rammed the pork...
If I\'d been taking a curve at the time it\'d have been back-end all over the place.
At least I know why mine broke traction though.
Glad you escaped this scare unscathed!

lol - I know exactly how you feel, I remember a couple of months ago driving in the wet at about 60mph. Came off the A3 turning into Waterlooville without slowing down and the backend did a quick number on me.
I\'ve spent some reasonable time playing computer games so my immediate reaction was to turn the other way and the car sorted itself out.
It was fantastic though...didn\'t last long enough to really enjoy the sensation but I did a yeehah much to my wifes amusement. When was the last time you yeehah\'ed :).
Of course you can only enjoy those moments when nothing goes wrong!
Seriously, the FD is a high performance rear wheel drive car; if you put wanky rubber on it or let it degenerate into a badly maintained turd, you are seriously asking for trouble.
And in cold weather use your brain when driving it - or you\'ll be joining the already long list of FDs written off /sigh
((^^^^how many you killed....?? *innocent grin*))
Mind did a similar trick on me last year, just put me new suspension on and was enjoying the new grip until it let go, going round a roundabout just outside work, i applied opposite lock, it flipped back across and i hit the curb. Scratched my (then) perfect alloy wheel and scrapped off all the paint on me front splitter (bugger!) There really do let go quite quickly when you get stiffer suspension on, more grip but less time to react, it\'s a fine line.
Lucky boy! :Thumbs-up I\'ve found those white lines are quite slippy when wet.
I would recomend a skid pan day to anyone owning a car with rear wheel drive, They are also GREAT FUN :Laugh lets you learn the signs and how to react when they go :Thumbs-up
And if your lucky you get to do a time attack on "ice" after that is quite funny
Seen way too many jap performance wrecked by spins

That\'s a cool idea :)
I find myself testing the limits a bit more everytime I get more confident... could be fatal at some point since they are LIGHT and POWERFUL! Not much time to react i suppose... so good to know the feeling before it lets go...
oh and mine "wags its tail" all the time! :rollin
Luckily everytime the rear wheels have spinned up they do so stationary... WET is NOT safe!
Mine handled relatively crap when I first got it. Shocks had gone & 2 bushes. Those raplaced + alighnment and my god what a difference.
Something easy to forget is simple as tyre pressure, makes a good difference too! :)
ran mine on jap rubber for 2 years, and they can be fun, now got new ones
