Title: High and irratic idle long story
Post by: looneytune on November 25, 2007, 11:17:03 PM
Hi
 I have a gen 3 rx7
I rescued this car a while back, suffering from boost leakage and everything under the bonnet being held together with cable ties, after repairing the front mount sorting out boost leaks a new kick in the nuts came by clutch slipping, anyway took it out for a blast today, the clutch slipped as it came on boost the the idle became irratic i pulled over let the turbo timer do its thing and and the idle would go from 1-3.5k i switched off left it for 10mins started the car at it revved to 6k then dropped to 1.5 and the idle then went up and down like a brides nighty. this car is driving me nuts, i fix one thing then something else goes tits up, HELP all advice would be good.

Martin has already queried the 6k thing and I have never know that one.

As for the other problems, the clutch has the classic FD symptom of a worn out clutch as they slip on as boost comes on before they die completely.

You said the bay was a mess, well it could just be then that you just have a vacuum pipe off or the pipe off the map sensor (small box mounted on the bulkhead behind intake elbow), both of these things will cause what you are describing.
