Title: engine rebuilds
Post by: pacer on November 24, 2007, 05:53:55 PM
ok. i have phoned two companies and they have both quoted me 3000 min for a engine rebuild. the compression is about 5.55,5.59 and 6.2 when they tested it so they told me its on its way. i also need the inlet manifold gasket done which they said would be done in the price of 3000

does anyone know anywhere cheaper? as i thought this was a lil steep. maybe im wrong tho

If you have gone to a reputable rotary company then that is a fair price, if they are doing the whole job - ie- engine out, rebuild , engine back. replacement parts ect come to over £1000 on there own thats without labour ect.

Most receipts i have seen for rebuilds from recommended specialists have been 5k+ ( although they had all had the ancillaries replaced too(cooling system/turbo\'s etc))

So all in for 3k is a good deal imo

Gosh Clive, - not to mention Rotor Housings, and a new clutch may as well go in, too.

you could try RX Motors, they usually tend to be a little cheaper

thanks guys for your help. unfortunately no one offers a monthly instalment plan lol. 3000 in one hit is gonna hurt the account

Yeah not a bad price.  Also if getting it done by one of the proper rx companies then you get some sort of warranty anyway  :)

Are the stationary gears really £666?!?!?!?!?! I saw this on rotaryart, and thought it must be mis-print? Surely they can\'t be that much?

oh yes sounds right, just paid out for new ones on my rebuild as we found normal 13BT gears were in my engine eek had to get new ones as the current bearings had signs of bluing and heat damage

You may not need new stationary gears if in spec, just the bearings, i got second hand ones with new bearings fitted so much cheaper.

To put it mildly - BLIMEY!!!!!
I\'d expect them to be more like £66. They\'re not complicated parts, or even particularly hard to manufacture.

My rebuild cost £800 and that was reusing the housings. The only thing i replaced were all the seals and rotor seals.

Well you could always opt for a 2nd hand engine, you never truely know what you are getting unless it comes with a rebuild and documentation to proove mileage etc. cheap fix to maybe move car on but if you intend to keep them get it done, take the plunge and at least you will have another few years of worry free motoring..........cant believe i said that !!!!! course you will have a worry, its a rotary for gods sake !!! Just spend yer money and enjoy the fruits my man.
