Title: Engine Problems
Post by: pjd7325 on November 21, 2007, 08:13:44 AM
Got an 89 EGI. It has developed a fault and now will not start. Here\'s what happened. Last thursday I went to start the car after a night shift and nothing happened. The starter motor tried to engage but wouldn\'t turn the engine over. At first I thought the starter motor may of jammed but after further investigation it turned out to be flat battery. I changed the battery, went to start it again and it fired up but only on one rotor. I let it run for a bit hoping the other rotor would fire but it didn\'t and I turned the engine off. I checked all the HT leads etc, connections and fuses and went  to re start but no joy. I then went through the un flooding process and took the plugs and egi fuse out cranked the engine over a few times to get rid of the excess fuel, cleaned the plugs and tried again. This time it eventually fired but was back firing but firing on both rotors but would not idle and I struggled to keep the engine running. I managed to keep it running so it could warm up and then I took my foot off the gas and it died. No matter what I did it wouldn\'t re start! I have now changed the plugs but still having the same problems. I have re set the ECU too. I can\'t understand how this has happened just from changing a battery! I have put the EGi on a well known auction site for spares or repairs but I would like to have one last ditch attempt to get her going as it will be such a shame to see her go over this! I am not much good at DIY mechanics but can anyone suggest anything else I can try/do? The workshop manual refers to various things but keeps referring to a digitial code checker which I haven\'t got plus various other things! Cheers, Paul.
