Title: Nothings Simple with FC\'s
Post by: paul3944 on November 18, 2007, 06:51:25 PM
Hi All,

Finally got my arse into gear today to sort out my rear brakes(MOT Fail).

I\'ve rebuilt some spare calipers with the boot kit from Mazdatrix and got all OEM Brake lines for the back.

Got all new OEM cables for the handbrake from the lever to the calipers and braided hoses to replace the crappy rubber ones.

All went well got the calipers off no problems then it started to go wrong.

All the joints on the brake lines are frozen with rust and rounded off instantly with one turn off the spanner !! even sprayed them up to death with WD40.

The brake cables dissapear above the exhaust so had to remove exhaust and now possibly the shaft just get at them !!

All this while the car\'s on axle stands and I\'ve got soot all over me from the exhaust :rollin

Left it now as its too dark will recommence next weekend :yes

All the best
Paul

Just grin and bare it mate,it will certainly be worth it and a noticeable improvement on the old brake quality. The back end gets a lot of road dirt and crap and the pipes are the first to suffer, probably worth your while in getting all the rear pipes done and that will be it for quite a few years.

Sounds familiar - how much blood has the car extracted from you so far?  All of my FC\'s so far have drawn blood... :D

yeah sound about right to be honest

although using a spanner on brake parts is a bit brave anyways :D - a 6 sided socket should have been the weapon of choice

Just a couple of grazed knuckles so far and a banged head :evillaugh

How do you get the socket over the brake pipe to turn the flare nut :3Confused

Invested in a 10mm flare spanner to get the job done properly.

ah yes , good point :D :D

a flared nut wrench is the BEST idea - if that rounds it - your screwed :(

my mate managed to snap off a bleed nipple on his car - couldnt even drill it out - so that meant a new caliper :(

if your rebuilding it cant you warm up the brake caliper with a blow torch? this might help free the nipple.

If they\'ve rounded then it\'s dire, except that Snap On used to do a tichy little pair of stillsons (tiny things) with sharp teeth. No flare nut, not even rounded ones can resist.

That was my fear today, but happily the bleeding (brake fluid that is) went fine :Santa

I showed mine a bit of character two nights ago.

All posts in the pack of the dash cowl are broken - all of them.

So I rammed 50% longer self tappers into every one.  Bish bash bosh :Thumbs-up
