Let me now what u think..:WaveBye
FOOK ME thats wide lol, what kits that bud? looking good :D, any rear pics?
It`s a Burnout kit from Shine auto..
Sorry no rear pics at the time, next time...;)
Here are some engine pics..
The engine is a PP with a GT4202R turbine..
The engine is buildt by Green Brother Racing in NZ..
And uses a 2 piece excenter shaft..

Feck me those a large ports. ;)
Fish
thats guna be loud :yes
Going for around 700 bhp..
This is going to be very loud.. lol
Have to use 5" tubing back to where the mid pipe starts and 4" the rest, just to get the back pressure down..
it still amazes me how small a 13b engine is
They are very small, but heavy...
Dear god. Take it money\'s not an issue then Lol

I`m not rich or anything if that`s what you meen...:3Confused
But all my cash are going in to building the car...:Thumbsup!
WOW, nice lump you have there.....2 piece eccentric shaft....what benefit does that give you ??
Quote from: Red and SingleWOW, nice lump you have there.....2 piece eccentric shaft....what benefit does that give you ??
It won`t flex at high boost and rpm..:Thumbs-up
Awesome, how many rpm do you plan to run ??
What turbo will you be using ??
And at what boost ??
Quote from: Red and SingleAwesome, how many rpm do you plan to run ??

The rpm I can`t say, befor I`ve hade the car on the dyno..
But around 10 000-12 000rpm..
The turbo is a Garret GT4202R, with boost around 30psi..
looks a very nice project , good to see it finished and here it
Looks Great!!
Good lord!! That certainly ain\'t gonna be shy is it!
Good work!
Thanx everyone:Thumbs-up
That looks the business to me!!!!!! some serioius investment not only in monetary values but also in the design process. Excellent oto see and I wish you all the best with it. 700hp should surely give you the highest hp of a mazda powered car in europe too.
Can I ask why you sourced the motor from nz?
cheers, michael.

First I just ordered the PP housings form NZ than I ordered the 2 piece eccenter shaft..
And then I just got the hole engine buildt in NZ, because there are nobody here in Norway that builds high power rotary engines..
Or that high power rotarys...
that is looking awesome, well done!!!!! keep us updated on the build and when she\'s running...

Quote from: DRAGONGREAT WORK!!! How are you going to make sure you get the top of the coil-over mount in the correct place?
Thanx..
Have done some measuring, so I think I will do just fine there..
But don`t now what coilovers I will use in the front..
What will you be attaching the top of the struts to?
What have you done with the cross member? I can see some welding but I\'m not familair enough with the component to be able to tell what has altered without comparing a standard one.

Hi
The brakets for the struts are not done yet, because I don`t now what struts I will use in the front..
Don`t think I can use the FD struts in the front..
In the rear I will probably use Tein N1..
The cross member was just dented?
Don`t now if that was the right word.. lol
So I have just hammer abit on it.. :cheers
Dented is the right word :)
You might as well use FD struts, the strut doesn\'t affect geometry on these cars as it is double wishbone - you still have the upper and lower wishbone mounts. They define camber, castor, etc. The strut is just providing damping and springing. You just need to make sure when mounted it is straight and does not bind in compression. The biggest problem you have is that the strut supports the car and when on track will have some very significant loads fed into it - the brackets you put together will need to be very beefy. If not then you run into the potential of the brackets being \'softer\' than the spings. So you may think the suspension is very stiff but the mounting brackets flex before the springs do. That will be undampered movement and the car will feel horrible, and you don\'t want a bracket to fail under load as it\'ll pitch you off track faster than you can say \'arghhh\'.

Yes that`s right,
But the FD strut is too long...;)
The strut braket will be straight down from the tubes in the front, and will be welded in to a strut bar, so i don`t think it will de to soft..
But thanx for the feed back..:cheers
Trouble is you need that strut length, as the upper wishbone is too small to get a spring through, so by fitting a short strut you are artificially limiting suspension travel, and to avoid hitting the bump stops (when the suspension spring rate basically goes to infinity) you will be forced to run much harder springs than are perhaps required.
It\'ll be an interesting problem to solve. What\'s the intended use for the car? racing I presume? In which series?

The tube frame is copied from a race car in the US..
And this car is going to be used in a time attack serie in Norway..
And there are restrictions on 40mm in travel in the suspension, so It won`t hit anything..
And the lenght on the strut won`t have anything to say on when the wishbone will hit anything..
If the car is the same ridehight as a normal car the wishbone won`t hit anything..
As long as it placed in the same posision..
I have been in contact with some people that race in the US with the FD, and have to use at least 17Kg/mm in front..
But this is just a pointer, it`s how I drive the car that will deside how stiff the suspension have to be..
And I haven`t tried the car yet, so we have to wait and see..

I`m looking for coilovers to use in front, and have to get them before I can weld the brakets..
Was thinking of going with Olhins in front..
:O thats a good choice, but with that much power, I would suggest a very solid setup :) (less power loss on acceleration during drag? ;) )

This is a track car not a dragster...:D
Spring rates around 1000 lb/in (~18 Kg/mm) in front, and about 800 lb/in (~14 Kg/mm) in the rear.

The engine will be an 700Hp PP engine with a GT4202R turbo.
I\'ve always wondered why these race fd\'s are painted unusually bright colours. TonyC, john aka atomic rex and your\'s. It\'s so the person infront on the track will see it in their rear view mirror and GET THE F@{K OUT THE WAY!
Great project. This forum is somewhat lacking in projects lately.

Where can I get a Big intercooler in the UK?
Could just trie to get one custom built..:yes
have you tried one of the vendors on here although i would just look on ebay.
so what kind of power are you expecting at that boost level and what kind of engine spec/turbo are you going to be using??
Quote from: karl_tatehave you tried one of the vendors on here although i would just look on ebay.

The engine is a PP engine with a 2 piece e-shaft..
Custom intake and exhaust manifold..
5" exhaust from turbo and back..
And a GT4202R turbo a/r .91 or 1.01, not sure yet..
And a huge intercooler..
This will run on race gas..
What are you actually using this car for?

Got a mail from NZ last week:
We now have the quickest n/a 2 rotor in NZ, and 2nd quickest in Australasia as far as I can tell. Its a car we built from scratch for a customer recently and runs a 13B PP and a very basic setup. It will make more power and run quicker next season.

I am loving the project and very kean to see the end result! Like the choice of kit too!! I have a project in this section too if you haven\'t already seen it? I ma wishing I hadn\'t got rid of my spare shell now! Although If another comes up I keep toying with building a track car! Can you tell me what you cleaned up the suspension bits with?? Did you use a scotchbrite pad on a die grinder or is it wire brushed using a die grinder? Makes a mega difference! and I appreciate the attention to detail! Just got to try and keep it all clean now!
Keep up the good work. Interested to know more about the engine spec to. I am new to rotaries so I am not familiar with the differences with all the generations of engine and what\'s different to the PP? I will have to search the threads!

Fantastic project mate, can see the pedals in the photo\'s anyway :). If this is going to be an out and out track car I wouldnt really recommend blending all the kit in together. Just that if you do take a knock or end up in the gravel it\'s going to make a mess and cost alot more to put right. I\'ve used a couple of strategically placed cable ties on our FD, works well even at speeds of 180kmh+
Cracking thread to read though!

looks like its coming along very well!
i don’t think the wing is real CF though as i had the same wing on my 200sx you can tell by the strength fold on the under side of the wing plus the "weave" pattern stays the same at all angles you look at it!
also do you think it will give you the down force you need as it feels strong in hand but in 80+ mph winds they start to really flex and wobble!
should get a APR Racing wing :P
sorry to be a pain

Project is certainly coming along now.. I presume you will be putting in some more brackets to stiffen up the bumper mounting? Is it not all very flimsey in the front at the moment?? My front bumper is mounted on a stock front end and thats pretty floppy! I will be putting some additional brackets in to stiffen it up.. The undertray will probably help as well.

My black wing is made by Sard in Japan - they have there wings on the Super GT cars and also the Time Attack R-Magic car - its 1800mm wide so lots of downforce and for wide boys only lol!! :D
I had wondered how you were going to mount the front coilovers with no top mounts!
Also with the plates welded in the boot how will you fasten the rear bumper? Actually your not running a stock rear so you probably need not worry!

It wasnt the plan to use stock mounts just an eye on top.
But when talking to AtomicRex we desided just to go with stock mounts.
Because not good to run different set of shocks infront and rear.
The rear mounts are still stock..:Thumbs-up

Quote from: interloper393;542663Quick STOP!!! you`ve forgeot the rotors lol... are those dowl pins? whats there advantage over the stock bolts?
LOL...:Giggle
That is not dowl pins, these are 12.7mm studs..:2eek
Advantage is much more strengt...:)
why do you need more strength? sorry for the daft questions lol but iv never heard of the standard ones breaking? do they prevent flex so keep the gaskets n seals intact longer lol

Looking good! Will the studs not give you any problems when rebuilding i.e fitting the intermediate plate over the ecc shaft? Are you going to use a sump plate or don\'t you need one now you\'ve got the strengthened studs?

Will also us a sump plate, probably don`t need one.
But I will use it anyway..:p

Good that you\'re using a 2 piece exc shaft, because getting the center plate on with the studs wouldn\'t be possible and even building it without them in it would be a pain because you can\'t use the dowl pins temporarily..

You just have to put the studs in after you have got the centerplate in place..:yes

Adam
Second Ada7\'s comment - lovely polishing!
what do they use for all thos funky bits when polishing? i do a bit n get no where near that finish!! people know n wont tell me lol...
Same as that! That is some top quality \'mould polishing\' standard work. Unless you have cheated and it\'s plating or paint? If it\'s polishing that must have cost a pretty penny to get done! And the engine bay will look blinding either way! Tempted to do that on my rebuild now!! Thanks for the idea!
Lee

Awesome spec, but fuel pump system seems completely over the top. why 3 A1000s and 3 FPRs?
Sorry to kinda hijack here but I am looking at adding some extra fuel to my engine so I can run a single setup.. I will be runnng a Power FC ECU and was thinking of usng 6x 850cc injectors (because I have them!) instead of buying sme 1680cc boch injectors and a top feed rail to match. How do you wire the extra two injectors? do you piggy them off the wires to the secondary injectors so that they operate together which would be like have 1700cc injectors I guess?
Thank you
Lee

That`s because I don`t wont any fuel pressure drop...
Will run 3 fuel lines forward and one retur line.
I could have used 2 eliminators, but I already had 2 A1000 pumps.

Hey there.. Cannot wait to see some more body work. Might give me some ideas for my next build! Be interested to see how your transition from the wide arches goes into the skirts?? Are you putting some super wide skirts on? Will see what it looks like but I could be interested in a set of arches! That being said I have a slight twist in mind.. What is the green gunk you are using over the joint? The problem I had on mine is after a cople of months the filler decided to sink back a bit and you can see dimples where the rivets were and a slight line around the edge of the arch.. at some point I will redo it.. I presume there s a bodywork trick to avoid this happening?!
Keep up the amazing work!

I have used fiberglass and epoxy to glue the arch to the car, then I use fiberglass filler over the joint befor I use normal filler..:)

Brakets for the front suspension almost done, just some grinding left.
I will weld one more tube on there, but have to wait for the engine to go in first..
I was hoping to get some more suspension parts from AtomicRex, but it doesnt look like i will.
Jon won`t replay my messages on MSN either.

this is probably a daft noddy question, but how are you getting the geometry correct? Presumably measuring from various notable body points, or is there some other magical "using the force" way of doing it??
Quote from: Archbish;601440this is probably a daft noddy question, but how are you getting the geometry correct? Presumably measuring from various notable body points, or is there some other magical "using the force" way of doing it??
Dont think I really understand what u meen?
I have never changed the geometry of the car..
The upper and lower arms are in stock posision, only thing I`ve changed is the pick up point on the dampers infront.
I have to ask..... what wheels are those on the front hubs??? Loving the dish, they are awsome!!!!! and are you going to be running the full set or have you only got the fronts??? coz if that is the dish for the fronts...... wow the rears must resemble a bin!!!
Jono
Sorry, that was badly asked question - the upper mounts for the suspension struts (not to mention lower arms, etc, etc). How have you ensured that you\'ve got them in the stock positions? They are points in 3 dimensions, and presumably they have to be accurate, so how have you measured to those points? I guess you measured from a number of fixed spots on the remaining chassis before cutting the front off, or made a jig or something?

Because I havent done anything with them, they are in same place as they when they came from Mazda..
Only thing I`ve cut off is the inner fender, the mounts for the lower arms and upper arms was left as they where..
So one more time, I have not changed anything else than the pick up point for the strut..
And the wheels stays where it always has been..
If I would have cut off the hole front of the car, and made a full tubeframe.
Then I would have needed to get the car in a Jig.
But when I left the brakets for the suspension alone, then I don`t need to..
The only thing I`ve really done infront is lift the pickup point of the damper about 5cm or 2"...:yes
Just to add to what vest says - archbish,
Within reason the top mount postion for the damper is not that critical.. If it was less vertical it would just mean it\'s working angle was not very good and a heavier spring rate was required. But we are talking moving it quite a lot. The wishbone setup on an FD is not like a MacPherson Strut on a regular car where the position would be a bit more critical as it would affect wheel camber and so on.
And by the way Vest this thread is awesome. I was pleased with my build thread until I saw this one!
Bish is probably getting confused with first and 2nd gen rx7s which is a Mcpherson strut design where movement of the top of the shock changes the camber and in turn geomitry
I\'m actually still trying to figure out where the two pieces of string that attach to the back of each wheel onto the plank are, and where they are going to go through the firewall... and those are the phatest pram wheels I\'ve ever seen, and I\'ve never, ever come across a carbon fibre soap box before!! *grin*
seriously tho, I didn\'t realise the original lower suspension supports were still in place, but I did think the position of the top of the struts would be critical - please don\'t think I\'m bringing it down, it\'s merely hoping to learn more about this stuff!!
Hmm.. I made a carbon fibre soap box once! Them were the days!

Why would the struts be in a critical posison?
I really can`t see the problem, the strust are in stock posision.
Just moved 2" up..
I know that the wishbone isnt in an idle posison, but I will fiks..:)

Yes they are 16x9 borbet A, really Mercedes wheels...:Giggle
I\'ve been really trying to find pictures of FD\'s on proper sized wheels like that! Are they ET10 or something? I found some nice 16x8 ET0s that I think would suit well.

They are ET15 actually..
Today I kicked my self in the ass for not doing anything with the car when im off work...:2Mad
So I thought I would finish the rear fenders today..
As u can see there are alot of room..:)

Good news.
Just got words from NZ, and the engine is going to be pick up and shipped on wednesday..:Thumbsup!
just going back to the front wishbone angle and rack position if you have lowered it by 2" are you going to have bump steer problems ? if you are running out of adjustment i have some track rod ends that lower the position to help this problem, let mt know if you need any. ps good work !!!

Thanx,
I really don`t know if I`m going to get bump steering yet.
But I would be interrested in some track rods just in case.
Just ordered 3 mufflers that can be rebuildt today.
We will probably make the exhaust so I can take on and off two of the mufflers...:Thumbs-up
So I can be on the limit of the noise restriction on the different tracks..:3gears-rh
What sort of spraygun is that? :2Confused
Would have thought to get the best finish you would have gone with more of a pro spraygun, like a DeVilbiss GTi Pro?! :)

Got some parts from Atomicrex today..:Laugh
The steering rack looks great..:)
The brake kit I`m very disappointed of..:2Mad
First is the front brakes, they are 360mmx32mm and has a 6 pot caliper.
But the pads are much smaller then AP Racing are using on there 330mmx30mm 6 pot caliper kit.
And then the rear caliper don`t fit the braket that I got..
To fit the rear caliper pad I have to grind off the pads, because of the bolts that holds the caliper to the car..:2eek
And last I didnt get the suspension arms for the rear of the car..:(

No drift setup.. Just put it that way for fun..:Laugh
Looks like I have to modify the rear brakets for the coilovers too..
The Nitrons are way to long for my setup, and there are no hight adjusting on them.
So then I have to cut and weld in the back too.. :cool
In front I moved the brakets up about 2-2.5".
AWESOME THREAD!!!!!!
just read all of it and a lot of respect for all the work you have done, so happy you kept updating and will be keeping an eye on this

I dont think those photos do the size of the turbo justice!
With regards to the Nitrons...what is wrong with them at the rear?
You cant alter the physical length of any damper unit, as that would require you to cut the rod. Have you altered the pick up points at the rear? If so....may have been a good idea to have told me about that before ordering?? :p
You can drop the height though on the spring platforms.

I will take some other pics of the Turbo when I get home from work..
Nothing wrong with the Nitrons, just that the car is to high in the rear..:cool
So I will just lift the pickup point at the top on the car..
U shouldnt lower the car by droping the tension bolts on the springs..
On hight adj coilovers they adjust it on the lower part of the damper, the lower part of the damper is like a nut..:Laugh

yeh just what i was saying if you drop the height by lowering the spring platform it will take the preload off the spring and on full extension the spring could rattle around... as said on height adjustable coilovers the bottom bracket is on a seperate collar which allows you to keep spring preload and adjust the height...
like on these...

nice turbo i have one too:)
nice couple of updates there :D
that intercooler is fapping mahoosive  very nice
shame about the WI pump, what is going to happen??
rice racings kit doesnt use a pump- uses the manifold pressure to spray the water in preturbo. (IIRC)
I don\'t think ive ever seen an intercooler that big...ever!!
its looking good. Also the HSD\'s above are very good coilovers and they are half the price of most. Also agree with the above, on a strack beast, you\'d want to preload to keep it stiff, though im sure you know this anyway!!

to be honest i would of thought atomicrex would know this aswell seeing as they are making track cars and supplied the coilovers....

would it not of been better using a smaller hight intercooler with a thicker core? as you are going to have restricted airflow due to the bumper anyways?
stunning fabrication on the car tho mate!

Well I wouldnt be able to fit a thicker core.. It`s 5" the one I have..
And it will get the air it need, will be cutting a bigger hole in the front bumper.
ah okay mate, 5" core, bloody hell those picks do not do it justice! would love to see it in the flesh!
i would be carefull with cutting the hole on such a sexy front bumper, but then again its a Go car and not a Show car!
keep it up!

ok and thanks for the cd pics... WOW!

Not sure if it is too late, but your secondary injectors atomise far better if they are angled away from the flow of air.
Read the book I sent you by Corky Bell :)
looking nice and tidy
(sensor is for water temp)
Awesome as ever, can\'t believe the size of that IC!! :mmmm

I hope to get the tubes for the new manifold on monday.
Will be a very simpel design, only thin is the turbo will be very close to the inlet runners..
So have to make a heat shield in a metal that dont conduct heat very good..
anyone know where I can buy a bracket to get the altinator on the left side of the engine?
I know xtreme rotaries have, but the shipping is very expensive.
So was hoping to get it abit closer..:)

Surely if you adding a turbo then the manifold and turbo will foul the alternator if it\'s on the left hand side ?

The turbo is on the right side on a rotary..:WaveBye
Got new tubes for the manifold today..:)
But I`m thinking of ordering a collector too, so the manifold will be done right..:Giggle

Today I did some work on the Carbon dash, I regret that I didn`t spesified that I wanted it in one piece..
It`s not possible to get it together as it should be.
So it looks like I just have to find the filler and use that in the gaps, and flock the hole dash..
I have used one layer of fiberglass on the back of the dash to make it stronger..
