Title: Fitting Coilovers..
Post by: CraigWWW on November 12, 2007, 09:41:04 PM
Hi folks

How big a job is fitting a set of coilovers and how long do u reckon it would take one person to do?

I have had a set of Teins sitting for a few weeks now and just want to throw them on myself rather than stick it into the garage?

Cheers:mmmm

Fronts are easy bud, rears will take a bit longer, never done a rx7 b4 but have plenty of others tho.. and the rears are always the worst hehe.. do them first, impact tools will make it alot easyer.
Will be spraying your wheels wensday bud :)

Never done a set beforethe RX, started and took me 2 hours, check on here I found a good couple of write up ups from memory removing the wishbone things  helped, I actualy found the front the worst, but as I say never done another car

The fronts are the most difficult the rears are a piece of cake, prep it properly and it\'s easy, grease the coileover threads lightly and wind them down as far as they\'ll go and get some penetrating oil on all the nuts/bolts and leave to soak for a few hours it\'ll make life easier.

Fronts are harder then the rears, The front upper wish bone\'s have to come off with the shocks, rears are pretty straight forward. Tip use plenty of lube and a big bar for the bottom arms and roll bar\'s.. Have fun LOL

Hi Criag,

If you would like to look here at  Shyauto.com which our Sister site to Mazdarotaryparts you will find a step by step guide on how to fit coil overs to an FD that we constructed after fitting many sets to these cars.

Hope this helps

As everyone has said, rears are very easy! Fronts are more tricky but stil not that hard TBH (unless you can\'t get the bottom pin into the lower wishbones then it\'s a right PITA!).

A good tip, make sure both the whels you\'re working on (both rears or fronts) are off the ground AND there\'s nothing on the lower wisbones, this means the ARB\'s are loose and easy to get off otherwise there\'s still a load of pressure cauing troubles ;)

Well...its done!

Wasnt too bad at all, took about 3.5 hours in total with no major dramas. Think ill need to lower the front tho cause it looks like its sitting higher than the rear.

A few pics...

Clive, you are the man.  Those instructions are first class.

Wish I had seen that before doing mine, might have saved a little time and tidiness.
