Title: UK fuel
Post by: Gerry M on February 17, 2004, 02:43:56 PM
Hi all

When my RX arrives would I be best fitting a Apexi or similar ecu so the car cam be mapped to run UK super unleaded or similar, It has a RE Amemiya ECU at the moment, or is it ok to use fuel & an octane booster??

Thanks

You\'ll be OK with SUL/Optimax and an octane booster.  If you can afford it an Apexi or similar will (once mapped) obviously remove the hassle of carrying OB with you at all times.

is octaine booster a nessesity?  will using Super Unleaded/Optimax alone be sufficient?

Something i never really thought about.

Depends on your car, mods, and how lucky you feel ;)  Lots of people run their cars on just SUL/Optimax and don\'t have problems.

Personally I wouldn\'t - the car was mapped for Japan\'s 100RON fuel, so while there may be enough tolerance in the map to cope with only 97, what happens if you get a bad tank of fuel?  Maybe it will be OK, maybe it wont.  For the sake of an extra 2-3 quid a tank I think it\'s worth it for the peace of mind.  Unfortunately it\'s not a question with a straight yes or no answer.
