Title: Maxing out the Tachometer!!!
Post by: AntiguanDart on February 17, 2004, 02:35:08 PM
Hi Gents and Ladies, this is my first posting but thought it might be of interest. Has anyone accidentally maxed out the Tachometer yet?! An alarming thought I know, but I did it this morning by accident accelerating on a slip road. I didn\'t notice the rev\'s climbing, at  about 9000 the Buzzer sounded but it was too late the needle hit about 10 000 revs and the car lost power. A bit alarming! But I guess it\'s simply the rev limiter...a few moments later the revs fell and I continued to accelerate away but in the appropriate gear. Seems computers galore not only control our traction but make sure we don\'t do any permanent damage to the engine. I love this car!:)

you must drive an RX8 ... my tach only goes to 8000 somthing.

and yes I have accidentally been over that   the scary thing to remember is that the older tachs are damped and will react slower than the engine ... so if the needle hits 8500 + just think what the engine is doing !  ( I would hope the 8\'s tach is a little better)

The limiter on an Rx7 is very harsh, so best advice is not to hit it!
