Title: TII Chipped ECU
Post by: pdtaylor18 on November 07, 2007, 06:07:36 PM
Well got the chip for the ECU for my 1988 TII (S5 Engine) and as i have a spare ECU thought i\'d have a look inside.  I have to de-solder the old chip and I am going to first solder in a chip holder and then the chip can be simply pushed into the carrier, perfect if i wish to upgrade.
1.  So first question is this, is it preferrable to solder the chip into position or use the carrier.
2.  Which chip is it, I can only assume its the one at the front with the sticky lable on it, as there are two 28 pin chips. The front one is the same as the one i have but would rather be 100% certain first.

This chip has better ignition and fuel curve, rids of the fuel / boost cut and also de-limits the speed.  its designed for a freelow exhaust and intake and will work on a totally standard car. I\'ll let you know how it performs when it all gets done.

Hi Pete  - I replied to your PM, but to answer the questions again for the benefit of others:

1)  I would use a socket, as it gives you the flexibility to try other chips if the one you have isn\'t the best match for your mods.

2)  The Eprom you need to replace is the 28 pin chip that is closest to the board edge, near 2 small chips labelled IC201 and IC202.

New chip is installed in a carrier now in the ECU.  Will try it Sunday and see if it all works.  Thanks Prof, learnt how to solder to a fine scale and learnt also to listen to you about pulling the legs through.  I also have a solder \'sucker\' and that worked an absolute dream.  I actually got the kit last year and this was its first true outing so well chuffed.
