And why? And i\'m talking about using on the road with track days?

I recently got Eagle F1\'s, once worn in they are great, grippy in the dry, good traction in the wet. It is quite easy to find and keep the tires on the limit too, i\'m a relative novice yet i find it easy enough to do. Also they were a great price (£88 each fitted and balanced).
And Evo car mag did a test on tires (issue 110) and they came out top.
Goodyear F1\'s would of been my first choice (as that is what I have on the front) but everyone is out of stock and Goodyear wont say when they will be making any more!! Could be a new design on the way.
I\'m edging towards the Falken 452, they get great reviews and the price is superb
Can\'t look past the Goodyears. I\'ve been very impressed with mine and believe the newer ones are even better. They won Evo\'s tyre test last month by quite comfortably coming at the top or near the top of all the tests they did (Wet handling, Aquaplaning, Braking, dry handling and road route). The next 2 in that test were Vredestein ultrac sessanta and continental contisport contact 3.
Barry
Had both Eagle F1s and Falkens both good tyres, leaning towards the F1 as they seem to offer slight better grip

Where, please? I seem to always read about great tyre prices on forums but end up paying close to £200 a corner in the real world. What\'s the secret?
Thats probably for standard FD size - ie 225/16\'s Ive been looking all over the place for my 255/35/18 and the cheapest I have come up with is £132 delivered.
Barmar: Do you know where the Falken 452 ended up in that survey? I have found them for £102 delivered!! That saves me £60 - so if I cant get my first choice the F1 I may go for these and save money, silver lining to not getting the best
Really, everyone\'s out of F1s in 18"? :(
Could be a problem, mine will probably need replacing soon... The F1s on my DC5 (17s) have been superb and good value (~£80 fitted). Just as good as the Bridgestone S02s I used to rely on in the DC2.
I\'ve got Falken 452s on the rear of the FD at the moment - I was pleasantly surprised with them on track in wet and dry, although I\'m new to the car so not pushing it too hard. Haven\'t hammered it on the road for the same reason and haven\'t driven the FD with anything else on, but it certainly doesn\'t feel slippy. Whether the Falkens are as good as it gets colder, I don\'t know - I\'ve always thought they\'re quite hard and not going to be brilliant in the wet, but that hasn\'t been the case thus far.
Just bought some new boots for mine about 6 weeks ago, and i went for Pirelli P6000\'s at £96 a corner fitted . Still on the standard FD wheels 225/50 R16 but they do seem to grip really well wet or dry, although not tried out on the track tbh....
I rate P6000\'s as a good everyday tyre since they have good dry grip, ok wet grip and they last well...but they don\'t compare to the ones above for grip
Toyo T1R\'s
Falken\'s weren\'t on the test unfortunately. Here is the the list of the 9 tyres they tested
1. Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymmetric
2. Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

5. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
6. Pirelli Pzero Nero
7. Kumho Ecsta STP KU31
8. Dunlop Sport Maxx
9.Yokohama S.Drive
emailed mytyres today for prices for eagles & falkens, fronts are 235/45/ZR17 and rears are 255/40/ZR17 bridgestone at the moment
T1r\'s have great grip - but not that well suited for track days. Once you have really heated them up they loose grip! Something to do with the gap between the treads.
I have them fitted to my Elise and definitely agree with this! they are ok if you have short sessions, or dont mind finishing off with a few hooligan laps :Laugh

I\'ve got the Vredestein ultracs on mine, based on a long chat with elite after the same issue as you are having - old style eagle f1s being discontinued and the new ones having mixed reviews. The ultracs have pretty big tread so should be good in the wet, and now having done a few airfield / track days with them they seem to have actually settled in really well. At first - as andy wil testify - they were a bit too flexible, but they seem to have setteld in now, and grip pretty well. And they were less than £100 a corner fitted for 17s.

Im fitting these later next week for a customer. Toyo T1-R\'s 17" from £89

have you tried micheldever tyres for F1\'s they seem to be able to get them??! but i only enq about 19\'s about a week ago... give them a call..

P6000\'s are some of the worst tyres i\'ve had the misfortune to own - they were on my 200sx when i got it, and my other half had them on her mx5.
The former caused me to have the only \'moment\' i\'d ever had in the car, and the latter caused the car to be parked halfway up a bank with bent suspension and a buckled wheel.
If i boughbt a car with them on, i\'d keep it off the road until i changed them! they are mediocre at best in the dry, and downright dangerous in the wet - on a par with Nankangs...
My money would either go on F1\'s, or FK451/2\'s - I prefer the 451 as it seems a bit more predicatable, and slightly better in the wet, but i beleive it\'s discontinued.
F1\'s are the best tyre i\'ve ever owned though - predictable, oodles of grip, and last a good while - the only problem i had with them is that they melt a little on track - the 451\'s seem to fare a bit better for this :)
Hope that helps
Si
Coming from honda\'s I still use bridgestone as have always found them flawless,
On the fd Iam using bridgestone S-03\'s/Grids and find they perform excellently although they have not been properly tested yet.
In my experience of tyres you pay for what you get!!!!
I.e.
Excellent but pricy
yokohama advan neova
P Zero\'s
etc etc
Good,
eagle F1
yokohama parada
bridgestone potenza/grids/S-02/3
michelin Pilot\'s
top of the range Falken
Poor but cheap
Toyo\'s T1r/T1s
p6000

On the plus side, at least it didn\'t have Woo Sung Dark Horses :D
Being a wheel whore leads one to often own wheels with a variety of appalling tyres :D
