Hi Steven

Probably the easiest way to tell (I found) is by the seat material.  Type S has a carbon effect, Type R has a suede effect and Type X has leather.

However other tell tales are as below.

Type R

Twin Oil coolers
Front strut brace
Projector foglights
Front lip spoiler
Rear spoiler
Only avaliable in manual

Type X

Air bag
Climate control
Cruise control
Sunroof
Bose Sound system

Hope this helps

This is something I\'ve always wondered as mine has no door sticker and has a strange spec that doesnt seem to fit into any of the typical type\'s mentioned above

It\'s an early \'95 JDM with the following spec

has all the bits mentioned for the type r,but has the full red leather interior with the rear seats and air con but nothing else associated with type x. Whilst it was getting a sevice from a specialist they pointed out that it had late 95 spec abs and RZ brakes (which were replaced with the standard size discs) but they couldnt identify what model it was

did they do an option list in japan where you could mix and match what you wanted ?

sorry for the hijack btw

Quite simple methinks...

It hasnt got a front strut brace becase it was probably replaced with a lovely aftermarket one once upon a time and the original sold or misplaced.  When the time to sell came the front strut brace was swapped out or sold, or it was simply pinched!

Interior mis-matches are common.  I\'ve got a Type R with full leather.  Some people simply like the leather and swap it out, as many have done on this very forum!

As someone once said to me, dont get too hung up on small details as most of us have now modified the cars anyway!

HTH
Chris :)

That would be a Typr R bathurst wouldn\'t it? red leather interiors are in them i think.
