Apologies for the non Rotary, its about my 323 Estate. It makes a a rumbling noise, from the right rear wheel. It gets much louder on a left turn, as that wheel is loaded more.
The guy I bought it from thought it was the right front wheel bearing, and has given me a hub from a breakers yard. I lay in the back while my wife drove it, and it sounds to me like its coming from the rear wheel. After much to-do with the spares shop getting the right parts, I replaced the bearings last night on the right rear - no change!
I was dumbstruck! Could it be the tyre? Its a very old Dunlop, and its got cracks all round it, though the tread is still quite good.
I will swap the tyres tonight and see if that helps. Then I supose, I may as well try his replacement hub on the right front.
Right front tyre is badly worn on the inside. I dont think poor alignment can cause a noise like that, can it?
How can I spin up the back wheel with the car on stands to listen to it?
I would try the tyre first ... coud be a worn bush or somthing I suppose.
sounds like a wheel bearing.
maybe the rear bearing instead/aswell as the front.
