I was just curious to see what peoples average water temperature is and the set up that their using.
For example mine see\'s on average 81 to 83 degrees driving round rural areas with not much traffic and on the motorway at constant speeds gives around 82. However if im stuck in traffic the temps will quickly sore to 97-100 until fans kick in and lower it back down to around 87.
Mines a streetported motor running a koyo radiator with a 50/50 coolant mix.
Just curious to see what other people get, especially v-mount people?
same except never goes above 95 when fans kick in,SMIC
85-87deg constant average, hit 90 during very hot weather in summer but that\'s the highest. Fwin rad and hks fmic.
Water temperature peaked at 95 degrees yesterday during a 30 minute session on track going hell for leather chasing a GT3. RE:Worx V-mount.
I caught him :Laugh
Im thinking about setting the fans so that they kick in when the temp hits 90 degrees. Normally they come on around 95 degrees but i have been hitting 96, 97, 98 and 100 (once) before they\'ve kicked in.
Im removing the air pump and adding a greddy downpipe in the next week or so and going to see actually how much difference that makes to the stock cat in terms of engine bay temps, then going to be installing a knight sports vmount early spring and test how much difference that makes. I am still debating wether to keep the aircon though?
If you have the standard fans then they actually kick in at different temps for different speeds. Slow speed kicks in around x degrees, then next speed up kicks in at y degrees....etc, etc. I think there are 3 speeds altogether.
Mines generally runs 82-84, unless in traffic or wellying it, in which case it goes up. I have a single speed pair of fans on my v-mount, and they\'re programmed to come on at 90. Not seen above that.
Ahh, that\'ll be why then! Was wondering wether it was a fault or not. I think i\'ll be doing the same as you with regard to programming the fans to kick in at 90.
What v-mount you running?
mine sat at 83-85 all the time.. hot cold wet dry . My fans used to come on at 88 and they might come on if sitting in traffic for more then 10 min
i have never seen over 82. but thats just casual driving, needs mapping before im prepared to go WOT.
!st rule when modding a rotary - get all your ancillaries up to scratch or up-graded before making your poor engine work harder:D
Just think about what you are intending..........making more power, to get more power you will make more heat.
Heat + rotary = Bang:2eek
Any upgraded Rad will improve the situation, the most popular route atm is a V mount kit, to make the most of a V mount you realy need to upgrade your ECU, if you have a programable ECU you can tell your fans when to come on:evillaugh .
Im sure there are lots of other mods that go with the V mount, like - bigger injectors, harder plugs, bigger fuel pump, FPR, boost controller, ignition amp........I think you will get my drift.
during driving ive never seen temps above 86, no mater how hard its been driven (Including mapping on the road) Norm on mine is around 82 to 85 and thats from a stock intercooler too!

Already got a koyo radiator mate

Already got plugs, sard fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, apexi avc-r and HKS twin power ignition.
Plus engine has only got 800 miles on it at the moment, so it\'s not even seen over 3500rpm...................... yet :3gears-lh

MIght have helped if you had put that in your 1st post, was only pointing out requirements, best of luck........oh and V mounts rock;)
Wasnt really posting about all aspects of the car. Just wanted to know what average temps people had and what types of cooling systems they were using. Sorry should of been more specific. What V-Mount are you running?
i seem to cruise around 80-84 but rises to 95ish in traffic then i press the aircon button and it drops down to about 85 again. I heven\'t let it get higher than that but i get the feeling it might!
Near-standard car, 40:60 coolant mix but sard thermostat installed this week definitely made a difference
off topic but what sort of oil temps are you guys getting?
Think you will find most propper V mounts will improve your temps, FD\'s are known to run hot on track they are safe to run 100+c, running to cool is not the most efficient either.
The advantage of a V mount is it gives equal cold air supply to the rad and IC.
My V mount is the PWR setup as sold by REworx, just about the best IC I have seen on sale in the UK
do you have any pics john, i dont think ive seen the reworx one.
how bad is the heat soak in trafic ect when compared to other setups?
thanks matt
HI I am running a trust FMIC, alloy rad in the upright posistion.
scoot bonnet 50 50 mix coolant
My apexi air filters have been moved from the engine bay to under the drivers light to get plenty of fresh cold air
90 to 95 in slow or stand still traffic never goes above that when the fan kick in 85 with ac on or high 70\'s to low 80\'s when motoring around.
air temps are around 20 when on motorway but in traffic it can rise to high 30\'s.

When driving temp is about 77oC when in traffic the temp has never gone over 83oC :Laugh

Too low. Engine is designed to run optimally at it\'s specificed operating temperature, which is 82-85 degrees.

As standard yes, this car is not standard.
Running below 82 is not good, you dont get a clean burn, if you are running constantly below that I would suggest you get your thermostat looked at.
Cant post pictures on this site, I did run a thread on FDUK with my engine build and setup if you are interested, failing that have a look on REworx site Im sure they have pics there
John right, is not about whether it\'s modified or not. It\'s about it\'s ability to perform that clean burn. It\'s just not designed to operate at a lower temp than 82.
My old FD ran at 77oC for 3 years without a fault and was running a T78 turbo, open thermo allows you to run cooler
Just because it runs 3 years no problem, doesn\'t mean that the temp was ok.
Open thermo will allow it to run cooler, but not optimally.
