Gen 1,series 1 RX-7 for sale,11 months mot 6 tax, fitted with the 12a rotary engine 120k.
I bought this car a year ago as a little project, did all the welding and bodywork over the winter including fitting new wheels and tyres and jdm style bolt on arches....mechanically it was sound just needing a service.I\'ve been using it since over the summer. It\'s been a very reliable car, always starting and using very little oil apart from the odd puff on start up.The engine made a healthy 120bhp on a rolling road and had done the qtr mile in 16.3 seconds showing it\'s still very healthy.I\'ve also fitted new seats in it as the originals were torn. The original seats and wheels are available.
This is a pretty rare car now and would make a great fun toy,and with an engine tune and rebuild could make 160 - 200 bhp which should make it pretty quick.
It would also make a rare/unusual drift car or great 13b turbo project.

I ran at shakespeare, out of 3 runs the 16.3 was the best which i was pretty impressed with.
I still don\'t want to sell it really, but i\'m running up the credit card now buying stuff for the Celica.
That looks like a superbly clean car, pity I just bought an MX-5...
know what you mean i want another bike and a gen 3 but 3 cars and bike is a bit much!
thats a good time, i got a best of 16.1 so its very close i need a bigger carb though as the 45 just doesnt do it, a 48IDA should get me near 200BHP so thats the next mod :cheers
Mark
Only three cars and a bike?
:D
At last count I\'ve got eleven vehicles[1] but I\'m now desperately trying to get this down to a more sensible level again.
[1] Four cars, the rest bikes.
very nice, if only i had some cash and a spare garage.
matt
Im sorely tempted by this car...been looking at it now for a while :yes :InLove
Id have to sell mine first tho :(
What have you got?
Non Rotary Im afraid..Seat Ibiza GTi 16v Cupra thingy :P
Shame....i need the dollar, but i also need something rwd and powerfull to donate it\'s engine and gearbox to my Celica project.
Quick....hurry up and get your car on ebay!
tempted... very tempted...:cool
I\'m looking for a 1st gen, too bad I have to cross the Channel first...:(
If it were nearby I would get in my care and take a closer look at it... (and then buy hopefully).. too bad it isn\'t nearby:mad:
Shame Willem,i\'m sure you\'ll find a nice one over there.
Now on ebay :)

Cheers dude, lets hope you buy another one in the future, eh?
Hi Guys!!
I bought the MKI RX7 off mr.bishi on ebay.
The bidding hotted up in the last half hour of auction,i ended up paying £1600 to secure it.
Pretty happy with car though! It looks great,i havent seen a MK1 for about 20 years,so i would think its fairly rare.
Anyone got an idea how many are left in UK?
The bodyworks not bad,its clean & tidy, but it does have some bubbly spots which i will get seen to.
Brakes/steering/gearbox/clutch/cooling system/electrics are all very good,as is interior.
Suspensions rock hard so i\'ll have to do that as well, exhaust is deafening on motorways, another thing to do.
Cars done 122000 miles,starts,runs & pulls,no problem!Good fun!!!!!!
Anyway i\'d like to pick your brains!!
The 2 gas struts for the glass hatch at rear are f....d,are these the same as 2nd & 3rd series cars, anybody got some or can you buy new ones?
Which stainless steel exhaust system would you recommend?
Suspension,which shocks/springs,rear dampers etc?
Mr.bishi,if you read this,i hope youre not too sad,the cars at a good home & will be well cared for,i\'ve already spent 15 hrs t-cutting & waxing the car,not a single splatted midgy or tar spot on it now!!!!!!
This is my 3rd car, others i have are a new Punto 1.2,a Dax Cobra 4.2 V8 which ive owned & built for over 10 years & its a stunner!!
The RX7 will only do about 2000 miles a year,so i\'ll spend more time working on it than driving it.
Nice Celica Mrbishi, best of luck with that,i\'d be interested in seeing it when its finished?
Thanks in advance for your advice & help guys!!
Oh yeah, was anybody else in this club bidding on this car,i met the reserve at £1100,& someone else bid £1550!!!I nearly lost it!!!I raised to £1600 with seconds left!!
Christ this is long,i\'ll shut up now.
Cheers Stuart.......

hi stuart welcome to the club,
if you dont have a rear wiper you can buy the struts from most stores, if you do you will have to get them regassed as you can no longer buy the strut that has the electrical connectors on it (got mine done ill dig out who did them if you need the number)
Mark
Hi Stuart.
I would guess there are maybe 50 1st Generations left. Anyone got a better feel for it?
Re the glass hatch strut. I got a pair of Sachs struts from USA after a tip from Shaun on this forum. I accidentally clicked for 2 pairs i.e. 4 struts. Now Shaun\'s tip was you only need the left hand one - it\'s strong enough on it\'s own, and that\'s dead right. You can\'t fit the Sachs struts to the right side (the wiper side), mainly because the strut \'flips\' 180 degrees so the wiper cannot locate. Anyway, I\'ve fitted 1, sold one to Dai in Barnsley and I will sell you 1 for £18 plus postage if you want one. That leaves me 1 spare for myself. They\'re new of course. Alternatively, Dickens on e bay (USA) sell them from stock.
Stainless exhaust - try \'Double S\', somewhere down in the West Country.
Suspension shocks etc? don\'t know - mines original.
must be more than 50 left, many are rusting to nothing, but there is never a shortage of Gen 1s on fleabay.
Now a series 1 Gen1 (ie the sa22c) is a lot rarer most of the gen 1s I find are series 3s.
Thanks for your help guys.:wave
The car does have a rear wiper, looks like i,ll have to order from the states or get them regassed.
My Dax Cobra has gas struts on bonnet & boot,i may be able to find out who makes them & get the rx7\'s regassed!
Anyone got a stainless exhaust fitted from manifold to tailpipe,my systems too noisy.Rotechniks do one but its about £900!!
Exhausts seem bloody pricey for rx7\'s,can\'t understand why,there\'s not much to them?
Hah,i\'m really beginning to love this car,few peeps seem to know what it is:3Confused
One guy didnt believe its from 1979,he said it looked too modern!!!
Showed him the plate,he still was\'nt convinced,ah but plates can be changed he said!!Wtf.:2Rolleyes
you could always try powerflow they build you a system for about 450 had mine done on my old a4 sweet job and even took it back to have it made quieter done for free and its life time warrenty >:)
This should help some of you guys out.
Ive looked at the gas struts on the bonnet & boot of my cobra & found the manufacturers details.
They are
Industrial Gas Springs Ltd
22 Wates Way
Mitcham
Surrey
CR4 4HR
Tel 0208 646 6595
They have a website & make gas struts for all sorts of cars,so regassing or supply of new struts shouldnt be a problem.
No excuse for tailgates crashing down on heads now!!!
There was also an exhaust fabricator who did some work on my cobra in top grade stainless steel,so if he\'s still around i\'ll let you know, might be usefull for rx7 exhausts!
Cheers:Tongue1
ascaudio.
That sounds interesting.
£450!!
Was this stainless steel & inc silencers/back box etc.
Where are they based & do you have their tel nos.
Dont suppose you know the grade of stainless steel they use?
Was it manifold to tailpipe?
Cheers Stuart.:cheers
my audi was done by bells silencers in swindon they have a good rep and use to make f1 exhausts the grade of the stainless i dont know but yes 450 was from down pipe back center section y pipe and two silencers at rear all top job power flow is a uk name so go to there head web site and look for local dealers/fitters ..
excuse the camp pose

Theyre nice exhausts!!
There\'s some dealers near me,so i\'ll have a look.
Dont think they do the manifolds though, grade of steel is 304 i think.
Cheers
Hey Stuart!
It sounds like you\'re getting right into it and having fun! Have you tried the bung in the exhaust yet? That quietens it down no end.
Sorry i missed your call the other day,i\'ve been in Rome and was very hung over when you rang.....i\'ll give you a ring later on or tomorrow if you like?
Laters,Simon
Quote from: MartinyCheers dude, lets hope you buy another one in the future, eh?
If not i maybe sticking a rotary in my celica anyway...(or hunting down an rx4) :bandit
Hi Simon!!
Yes i am enjoying it!
I\'ll give you a ring,i dont know how to fit the bung in the exhaust, just whack it in or is it secured by a screw/bolt?
Ive managed to track down some rear tail lights!not easy to find, but as you said the internet is great for finding parts!!
Hope Rome was good,i\'m doing some work opposite Italy, beautifull part of europe, what was the temperature like?
Cheers Stuart...Show peeps your Celica when done...
The bung should just push in,lining up the hole in the bung with the hole in the tailpipe so a bolt can be fitted just to secure it.It may go in easier when the tailpipe is hot.
Rome was fantastic ta....about 3 or 4 degrees warmer than here i think.
And yes.....the Celica will be all over the net when i\'m done! :yes lol.
I did look for some tail lights when i got the car because of the fading and the light cracking around the screw holes but couldn\'t find them at the time.....that\'s why i made my own new seals for them and gave them a light tint to tidy them up.
I\'m a biyt jealous now! I love having new stuff to play with!:rollin
