Title: Calling single turbo owners
Post by: Clintuk on November 02, 2007, 03:27:36 PM
Still in research mode and would really like to hear from owners of single turboed cars.

What\'s your set up, what are your figures, dyno graphs would be fantastic.

Real world experiences of different turbo set ups would be really useful.  There isn\'t a BEST set up and my requirement won\'t be the same as other peoples, so I\'m really looking to keep this as broad as possle, from cars set up purely for the road, throuh track options and out and out drag cars.

Brag about how your car\'s the best :cheers

I\'ve got a to4e which is known as a small turbo and made 331rwhp @ 0.87 bar on ****ty plugs and a slipping clutch... I start building positive boost at 2000rpm and get full boost by 3000 rpm an excellent street turbo I think :D

To4r - makes boost 2-3000rpm and get big hit before 4000rpm and pulls all the way to redline. That\'s with a 0.81a/r non divided housing on divided manifold and streetport, going to go up to a 1.0a/r divided and run some more boost when remapped (only 0.8-9bar atm). Turbo sizing will depend a lot on engine porting done as well (streetability, boost made vs rpm). This turbo doesn\'t wake up until 1bar+ and comes on song ~1.4bar from what I\'ve read (with bigger exh housing for a rotary).

My old RX7 had a T78-33D turbo with mild street ported engine, made 401bhp @ flywheel @ 0.6bar :D but the spool was like after 4000rpm.

New one has a Apexi RX6 turbo unit, not been dyno\'d but super low spool on streetported engine, spooling at 2800rpm :god

Both good units, the T78 brill on high power but poor on spool, the RX6 not brill on high power but spools so quick it makes the car a very very quick street car :Thumbsup!

T04 or R6 turbos sound like the type of thing I\'m looking for, any others that are similar to these 2 - just trying to keep my options open.

Thanks

If you want a street turbo then a To4e or s is a good bet, also a Gt35r - bleakboy has just had one fitted so he can fill you in on that.

I had a GT35R (1.06 a/r) on my street ported engine. It made 397bhp at 0.9 bar.
Not the biggest or most powerful turbo but the lag was non existant, also ran consistant low 12 second 1/4\'s.
At santa pod i Used to beat my mates to4r powered car off the line every time but then he always caught me just before the finish.
Have now switched to a T04Z, havn\'t had it on a dyno yet but the delivery is noticably differant. It starts building boost quite early but takes longer to reach full boost (about 4k), however when it does the kick is much harder & pulls all the way to the readline with no boost drop off whatsoever!

Had a T04Z on a streetport originaly which gave 450 at the wheels 525 at the fly full boost by 4k, on the half bridge port 468 at the wheels approx 550 at the fly, full boost by 3800

I better get somewhere near those numbers with my T04Z! I\'d be well happy then!
Blitzboy what size was the exhaust housing on your T04Z when it was on a street port?

It was attained on 1.3 BAR of boost using a 1.15 exhaust housing my man, make sure you use either WI or mix in a bit of race gas at those boost levels, I was approx 400 at the wheels (470 at the Fly approx) on normal 99 pump with no WI at 1 BAR

Nice one mate! Already have WI in place. Planning to run 1.3bar max, but only have the 1.0 a/r housing so may be a bit down on your figures!
If i can get into mid 11\'s i\'ll be happy!
