Title: Just got a 13B any suggestions?
Post by: Gaijin-Samurai on October 30, 2007, 10:49:37 AM
Hi, I have just imported a 13B Cosmo in Black, it failed the mot on rear bushes, apperently not a surprise, I\'ve ordered the replacement bushes already, is there anything else I should be concerned about? When properly warmed up, I gave her a little  bit of beans and was so very pleasantly surprised at just how well she pulls, what a wonderfully surprising car it is. Unknown quantity so any advice greatfully received.

You can put fd fitment wheels on (35 offset) with a bit of rear wing manipulation. How bad was the rear wheel bush play because even new bushes have a certain amount because they are in fact metal spherical bearings and not bushes which would not work without a certain amount of play.

Well, my local mot tester is pretty relaxed but was uncomfortable enough to fail it on that. Having said that, I\'d hazzard a guess it\'s his first Cosmo, so who knows if they\'re knackered or not? The car only has 65,000 kilometers on it and feels pretty taught and solid but as it\'s a common fault I\'ll fix it anyway. It\'s a case of living and learning with these beauty\'s I guess, thanks Kev.

Well, I was just gonna clean up the interior a tad, as light tan needs a little care after 16 years, but I think she\'ll come up very well. Then I had considered putting a bigger set of alloys on her and loosing the two tone greyish bronze in favour of the black body colour. I\'ve seen them in one colour and just prefer that look. If that\'s sacrilige let me know please.

Pretty sure at that mileage the rear end is okay and the bushes cost a bloody fortune. Look at the pic in the link is it the bushes either end of item 3.

So long as the cars are running and not cut what the hell. Mines probably the most modified in the uk anyway.

That\'s the boyo\'s! I\'ve ordered them from RX Motors, they seem quite helpful.

when you remove the arm it looks like a rubber bush but this is only a cover under this is the steel bearing. To change them you will need a set of internal circlip pliers. As i said a certain amount of play is normal when jacked up and the wheel is unloaded. If you explain this to the mot tester then they tend to take your word for it as they have no spec sheet for a Cosmo.

its just a standard kph to mph converter the same as any other jap car uses personally i prefer the adjustable ones either yellow box or speedo healer but a fixed one will do the job if your not planning on changing wheel sizes.

bloody hell one at a time
they are like a normal delimiter chip but have dill switches. If you have a gps with speed display there easy to check and set up.

Forget about being advertised for bikes they work just as well on a car. As for fitting john you just splice into the speedo input one wire in one out plus live and earth the same as a normal chip.

Thanks Kev, although I am considering an 18" upgrade on the alloys.

With or without the rear spoiler guys? I have a rear (bootlid) spoiler on mine but just not sold on it, they look better without I think. Should I loose it?

Keep it I say............. (personal opinion though)

Kev will set you straight but if you follow the usual tactics, such as exhaust, intercooler, intake. Your little 13B-REW will pull quite hard.

In regards to your rear bushes, last time I purchased them the invoice came as quite a shock (Jaw dropper). Let us know what you end up paying for them. Perhaps Mazda has relented on the crazy price & settle down a bit.

How are you doing with the polybush option Dave still on the back burner? As for the Mazda bushes i priced them up early this year and it was scary can\'t remember the figures though.
