Title: Mazdaspeed RX7?
Post by: Scrimmy on February 16, 2004, 09:59:24 AM
If anyone can help please do.
My dad has been offered the following car:-
Mazdaspeed RX7 (chassis no. FD3S-111147), black 1992 K reg, £9995.
Its supposed to have been racing prepared for the track by mazda, its got a full bodykit, perf clutch, lightened flywheel, mazdaspeed susp, induction system, d/valve, mazdaspee exhaust, all put on in the factory.
After looking at it i cant see any bodykit for a start, but the blokes says that the rear bumper is wider and the bodywork flares out slightly at the end of the side skirts where the rear arches are, looking under the bonnet it has a HKS induction kit, and a couple of other bits.
The bloke says the there are only 7 mazdaspeed rx7\'s in the uk, but i have searched this forum and i can see anything the says that there is this type of version.
Is this a genuine car or is he getting ripped off and paying 10 grand of a standard k reg rx7 with a couple of added bits? PLEASE HELP!

Hi Scrimmy and Welcome,

Any chance of getting pictures of this car?

Try and get outside,interior and underbonnet shots as there are more than enough people in the club who will be able to identify exactly what this model is.

With the advent of MRC gone are the days hopefully when a dealer could tell story\'s about these cars safely knowing there was no way of checking anything out about these cars .

the only pictures i can show you at the moment are on the following link:-
http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/WWW/cars_search.asp?modelexact=1&make=MAZDA&model=RX7&variant=&keywords=&min_pr=9000&max_pr=10000&mileage=&agerange=&postcode=s9+1sx&miles=40&max_records=50&source=0&sort=3&search=SEARCH

sorry, you\'ll have to copy and paste the link (did\'nt know how to add it correctly)

these are the only pic\'s i\'ve got coz we only went and had a look at it yesterday and my dad has put a deposit on it and he\'s picking it up next week. so i can have more pic\'s next week but it will be to late by then to know if he\'s been ripped off!

there are more pics on the website

I wouldn\'t call it a "full" body kit :)

Well from that picture it has an aftermarket spoiler, exhaust and Advan 3 Spokes.  And a nasty looking sunstrip :D .

It certainly doesnt look anything special.  As to if its worth 10k, well if it has just been rebuilt then from a dealer thats probably a resonable asking price.  If it hasnt had a rebuild, then it will probably need one pretty soon I guess.

Looks a nice car on the outside from those pics

Check if its had a rebuild though, if not and he goes ahead, budget for one, has it got a boost gauge, what boost is it running, std or higher ?

Personally I\'d lose the three spoke immediately, but thats just me :)

I am always very dubious about the whole "theres only seven in world" type quotes

Mazdaspeed options were available at anytime from dealer and direct so I doubt only seven people bought them :)

it has had i rebuild.

another thing that he said was that he have another one about 2 years ago and he ended up selling it to a bloke from shropshire who has put it in a museum?:confused:

he also said the tax was cheap coz it was only a 1300 engine, i\'ve asked 4 people in the trade and 2 said yes it is classed as a 1300 engine for tax and the other 2 said no. but none of them had owned a rx7 so whats the true answer?

it can be taxed with dvla at either 1.3 or 2.6, insurance companies generally class it as a 2.6 though
Insurance isn\'t cheaper cos they aren\'t daft and know its a fast car

the museum comment is classic :) maybe mine could go in a mueseum :)

MS Aero II rear wing, about it from what I can see on the MS front??

There are hundreds of cars like that, tell yer dad to forget it considering what they obviously lack in FD-knowledge. For £10K get a car from one of the reputed dealers you can find on here and be safe in the knowlged you are getting what you pay for...

One thing to possibly do is ask a member of MRC who is close by to go with you and check it out? its a tall order but most of us guys know a fair bit and could save you hassle if the salesman starts his selling jibberish;)

Also ask for compression test, and documents to prove engine rebuild which should also tell you where it was rebuilt from?

Theres alot of knowledgeable guys on this site as i\'ve found, if you can ask the dealer to post some pics of the car to your home computor then relay the pics to us guys, eg engine shots,interior shots etc....

Have a look at these sites.

//www.neweraimports.com
//www.linney.org
//www.powervehicles.co.uk
//www.dragonperformance.co.uk
//www.japvillage.com
Or search for "3rd gen rx7\'s for sale" which should bring up a rx7 only selling page.
Or look in the for sale section on here.

Good luck dude:wave

Not the cheapest of places is it ? - the MX-5 below it is about 1.5K over priced !

Made a hash of their html too, from what I can see. Virtually none of the site works in Opera at all.

10k for a \'92 is pushing it even for a rebuilt one, and I\'d say that hasn\'t been.

Just had a look at their stock listing, the M-reg Skyline is about 2k over-priced i sold my skyline for £7000 which had more extras than that one including £2500 worth of audio!!!

Probably best to get the deposit back dude if you can hopefully you didn\'t leave too much, if they can produce documents to support engine rebuild would be good to contact who-ever it the rebuild to ask for defects in vehicle.
