Title: A Few Probs with My Car
Post by: GaseJo on October 27, 2007, 07:59:03 PM
Hi all,

A little bit of knowledge needed if you please.

Drove my car today to get resprayed, Has not been driven for at least 6 months and then only around the block. First of all when i get to the first turbo coming in i get a sound like a party blower so i decided not to push her so driving below 2000 revs then all of a sudden all the lights on the dash board came on the pfc rebooted and then power back again. It kept doing this like someone was turning the power on and off. Also when the the power came back the hand brake light stayed on. The battery connections are all tight. Could there be another reason for this and is the handbrake light staying on a PFC thing for a fault somewhere?

Thats enough babeling any help will be appreciated.

Cheers Garith.

perhaps the battery is a little flat and the boost issue is old plugs.

wiring is very bad on some fds so perhaps it sitting has corroded more wires? perhaps sitting moisture?
if it wasnt kept in dry storage then maybe this type of thing but just ideas mate.

thanks m4drx I dont think it is battery or plugs. When i get the car back i will check for loose or corroded wires.

for some reason you must have lost power to the pfc for it to reboot.my guess is a bad live source

On the flip side of the bad earth my pfc commander would reboot all the time but this was due to the plug not being firmly pushed in and wires tucked away. worth checking all the wiring in that area and positives and earths you can see also.

if you need any advice as to where they are give me a call as i did alot of earthing work on mine.

07900 575 124.

this may sound odd but it could be that the fuel n the tank is passed it. also in the past people would store cars with an empty tank to stop rust occuring. nowadays people tend to store with a full tank to stop this as modern fuel has many additivs in to aid.

more ideas mate mate but my tact is always to start with the easiest.

hopefully others can jump in with thier 2p.

:)

Sounds silly but have you checked the PFC for water ingress if the car has been sat about.  I remember reading on a few occassions about the PFC ECUs ending up with water in them due to the mounting position/ Angle.

Only a stab in the dark but it might cause the PFC to keep shorting and then rebooting like you are seeing.

Thanks for all the comments. I dont think it is a PFC problem i think it is more of loss and then regaining a power supply as the dash goes out then comes on as if i have just turned the key. M4drx when i get the car back i will try your sugestion about earthing points as i have stripped most of the engine pieces for powder coating and i may have missed or have a loose earthing point. As i said in the original post about the handbrake light staying on is this a PFC warning or maybe just a stuck switch?

Cheers Garith.
