Title: FC3S Import Advice
Post by: Woodsy on October 25, 2007, 02:36:34 PM
Hi Guys,

Ive just brought a FC3S from japan from powervehicles. The company seem all well and genuine but all they do is export the car from japan to the uk. Once its here I have to register and SVA prepare it, get it thru customs and get it ready for the uk roads.

Ive got about 10 weeks untill she arrives and wondering if anyone knows of any companies that might be able to help me with the process.

Any advice would be very much apprichiated.

Woodsy

an FC shouldnt need SVA ing, just MOT\'d on the chassis number then take the import document and the release docs from japan in to your dvla office and register, just make sure they mark down as 1.3 litre.

whats the spec out of interest?

Yeah, forgot it doesnt need to be SVA tested but it still needs to be converted from Kph to Mph and have a rear fog light attached.

Im at work right now so will post a few piccys and spec when i get home :-)

i need to get the clocks changed to Mph from Kph and have a rear foglight fitted. Also need to register the car but aparently you need to have a certificate of insurance before you can register it :-s

Didnt think i could insure it untill it was registered as technically the car doesnt exist in this country.

Its all sooooo confusing :-s

i think you can get a cover note on the chasis number untill you sort out registration, then you can insure it on the reg number.just ring an insurance company and ask them,i\'m sure they will help.

So the jap speedo cable spins at a different speed to the uk one? Or is it just the dash that has the numbers in different positions?
I\'ve just stuck my UK dash onto my Jap car and thought it would be ok? Havent tested it yet, nevermind if not was considering scrapping the dash in place of the Microtech unit.

Yep, there\'s a lot of people like that.
As for the convertor, if you\'re in the trade you can buy em at the docks - easy.
I have got an FC, also 2 Fd\'s and lots of other stuff.

Ben - the speedo drive is calibrated in line with the clocks to read either km\'s or miles. You can\'t just swap stuff about. You need a convertor unit on the cable, or you could reface the dials but this doesn\'t remove the 180km/h limiter

I know this sounds really stupid (and sorry for the hijack), but if I remove the clocks, is there anyway I could keep track of the mileage?

And where is the 180km/h limited? In the ECU? or somewhere more tricky?

Thank you!

the limit works off a signal from the clocks. So if you fit a mph convertor, the limiter will still be there but it\'ll be set to 180mph instead.
A few imports can be delimited by cutting a wire (r32 skyline, gt4, etc), but not many

Quite frankly I wouldnt bother converting from kmph, both my cars are still in K\'s and im so used to it, now I see a 50mph limit for example and just think 80kmph.

Yea i brought Dai\'s FC :-) fell in love as soon as i saw her. Its being prep\'d for shipping as we speak :-s

As for keeping your clocks in Kmph, id love too as it gives it a more jap feel but i think i get caught speeding by mistake :-s
Title: easy importing
Post by: craicedup on November 06, 2007, 03:17:52 PM
Hi mate

I\'m currently importing a few rx\'s  2fd\'s and 1 fc
all work is pretty straight forward

1.any thing over 10 yrs old does not require sva

2.you can mot on the chassis number

3. mot now requires all dash displays to be in mph and kph (at least here in northern ireland) usual fog light required rear bumper markers on fd\'s have to be removed or covered up. using pva tape to cover them is an easy work around.

4.when registering you now have to tax the car at the same time so a cover note will be required

5. your car will have to clear customs before it is released to you some shipping companies can recommend a clearance agent and most docks have several to choose from.

6.bring all of your documents de regestration certificate, customs clearance invoice, bills of lading etc.

7. dvla then asks you to fill out several forms for bringing a used car into the uk.
can\'t remember the form codes off hand but i\'ll post them later.

8.thats pretty much it pay your tax and £25 registration fee and thats you done.

9. by the way the killer is 17.5% vat and 10% duty that you have to pay i have a calculator to work this out some where and can e-mail it if you need it but a good clearance agent will handle all this for you their fee is usually in around £50

hope this is of use
cheers
dec

(this is only a guide of what i had to do when importing)

Hi Dec,

thanks for taking the time to type all that out for me. When you break it down like that it doesnt seem quite so daunting :-s

Ive found a company http://www.shipmycar.com who actually handle all of this for you, well you have to clear the car through customs youself but after that. They even pick it up for you and can deliver it to you when they have it all ready. Its a small charge but seems highly reasonable for what they do. They\'re in Milton Keynes which is perfect for me as im only about 30-40mins away :-D

cant wait for her to arrive now
