Title: The Rotary is here to stay with the Taiki, Premacy and a new Rotary engine
Post by: clive on October 24, 2007, 08:32:11 PM
With the World Debut of the Taiki and the announcement of a new next-generation RENESIS rotary engine called 16X at the 2007 Tokyo motor show enthusiasts of the Rotary can be assured that the Rotary engine will be around for many years to come.

Below are some extracts of the press release surrounding the Taiki and the multi fuel Premacy and an underbonnet picture as well.

                                     Mazda Taiki Concept

Taiki Concept- aimed at helping create a sustainable society
Mazda Taiki reflects one possible direction for a future generation of Mazda sports cars aimed at helping create a sustainable society. The fourth concept car in the Nagare design series, Mazda Taiki, further evolves the “flow” theme to establish a breathtaking presence that clearly defines its Nagare credentials, and visually expresses the atmosphere - called taiki in Japanese - that wraps the Earth in its protective mantle.

Centering around the performance rotary engine sports packaging that is synonymous with the Mazda name, technologies introduced for the Mazda Taiki include the next-generation RENESIS (rotary engine 16X, which sets new standards for environmental and driving performance, a front-engine rear-wheel drive layout, unique 2-seat configuration, and others which convey an image of lightness. The effect integrates perfectly the design theme to realise unbeatable aerodynamic performance.

The concept includes a Tachometer that renders visible the beat of the rotary engine
Extending gracefully to embrace the steering wheel and driver’s seat, the respective edges of the dashboard each feature a row of red LEDs that function as the tachometer. Streams of red light flow toward the front on either side of the driver to visually depict leaps in engine RPM. The result is dynamic visual feedback that expresses the emotion of driving.

New Mazda Premacy Hydrogen RE Hybrid

In the decade following 2010, Mazda will revise its entire powertrain series, aimed at reaching “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom” with the emphasis on enhanced fuel and emissions performance, combined with superior driving performance. These next-generation powertrains will be on display, along with the many safety technologies currently under development to realize sustainable transportation systems.
Mazda is offering an exhilarating driving experience with vehicles that achieve Mazda’s trademark fun-to-drive performance, allied with outstanding environmental and safety performance.

Hmmmm
QuoteThe 16X RENESIS rotary is a significant step forward by itself, coming complete with more displacement – up from 1.3-liters to 1.6 – and featuring a two rotor design, which combined with direct injection and a longer stroke, will increase fuel efficiency and torque output across the rev-range.

So thats an effective 3.2 if we follow the same math as the FD

dig dig dig

QuoteInstead of bolting on a couple of turbos, Mazda’s increased the size of the rotors and housing, giving a longer stroke and new 1600 cc capacity (800cc x 2).

With direct injection also on board, power and torque are both up 20 percent, yet the engine is also cleaner and of course designed to use less oil than today’s 13B.

Rotor housing and side housing are now aluminum and the new chamber design, plus direct injection are keys to improving the rotary’s notorious thirst.
