hi,im new to the forum and new to the joys of rx7 ownership,i have a few questions that i hope can be answered,i have two gen 2 non turbo that i bought on ebay a few weeks ago, both were non runners,i have got one running but the exhaust gas smells realy bad,is this normal?the air pump has been removed and a blanking plate fitted to the inlet.does this affect the emisions and does it improve performance.
the fuel pump has been wired to a switch in the dash, seems like an odd thing to do,is there a reason for this?
i left it ticking over in the garage for about five minutes, when i looked in the car to check the temp i noticed that all the lights in the centre of the dash were on,is this a common problem or is it a trying to tell me something?my last question,is the 13b turbo the same engine as the 13b non turbo, one is called a 2.3 the other a 1.3 but both a 13b

At a guess I read this on american forums.  They seem to like to have this option incase you flood the engine.  You then turn the pump off and crank the engine to get rid of the fuel.  Then they turn the pump back on and hopefully the engine starts next time - could be wrong but seems similar :)

Both the turbo and EGI have 1308cc (UK law means that the UK ones are registered as 2354cc. Occasionally you do find jap ones registered as this too) so that is the different cc ratings.

The engines, basicially, are the same but the EGI has 2 more ports and a higher compression ratio.

Sorry I cant help you with the others

Ricco :)

Welcome to the club matey. I\'ve got 2 TII\'s one registered as a 2.4L and the other a 2.6L. DVLA can\'t get anything right! Im not sure I like the idea of the fuel pump being wired to a switch. What if (god forbid) you were in a crash and split a fuel pipe. KABOOM. Or is there a safety cut off or something on it?

the fuel cut switch is a great idea to be honest

when you have finished driving - leave it idling - cut the fuel and just as the revs flicker - turn it off

99.9999 % of the time you will never flood your car on start up :D

what does egi stand for, what is s3, s4 ect? all very confusing, should have stuck to fiesta\'s:Laugh which models have an lsd fitted and will it fit in an fc?

The s\'s are just the different marks and correspond to the difference in age the S5 being the latter of the FC range. Some mods were made to improve performance or just visual/cosmetic differences and these sometimes differ between a UK or JDM version.  The latter S5 has better rear lights, more BHP and a few other minor differences in trim but basically the same platform and engine.

sorting the brakes at the moment, seized pistons on the off side front, good job i\'ve got a spare car for parts, think i might change all the brake pipes and then take it for an mot and see how it goes on.

what sort of power can be squeezed out of the egi model?mine has got the air pump removed and the air control valve blanked off,its also got a k&n panel filter in it,other than that i think its standard.what should it be putting out and what is the next step on the rotary tuning ladder?i have a lot of experiance with normal engines but have to admit i\'m a little bit lost on rotary tuning.i dont want to start pulling the engine in bits so porting is out of the question(for now)or is it more practical to get a turbo motor for it?

Without doing some porting work you may be able to squeeze another 30-40bhp from it. (You will need a full straight through system - a little anti social but they sound so much better than the turbos)

Shopping list should include:-

Decent panel filter.
Straight through exhaust.
And, depending on how you budget is:- Nice set of carbs or an aftermarket ecu.

thanks for the reply Brett, looks like  a noisey exhaust next then, already got a panel filter in it.what sort of power do they put out as standard? i was told about 175 bhp but that seems a lot from such a tiny engine,is it true?

thanks for the info Grinder,i looked on your site at the specs,i have a 1989 car for spares, this one has more power than the 1988 car,do i have to swap the whole engine or is the extra power from the bolt on bits like the ecu or the inlet manifold, any advice is greatly appreciated.

i dont think there is much to gain with the engine swap - apart from a loss of time

id go with the exhaust route to be honest

brett is the man for this - im sure he got 180 - 200bhp from an EGI

If they are the same as the ones on the TII coupe you can have the ones on mine Stu. I\'ve decided to break the spare one after christmas.
