Title: Tear down and rebuild report.
Post by: hairyhoover on October 16, 2007, 09:30:09 AM
Hi, some of you may remember my bad start of RX7 ownership back in March. My engine let go on the way home from buying my car from one of the ‘best’ rx7 specialists in the country. To be honest many of you have had great service and work carried out by them so I presume this was one off. See original thread below:

http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35626 (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35626)

The pictures in the link below are fact – the advert on ebay consisted of the following:

T61 single turbo on custom manifold – I was told this was a turbonetics, it was a xspower t70
3" exhaust with Feed back Box
Custom Front mount intercooler and Radiator setup
Mild ported engine by RE-WORX – see the porting for yourselves on the link below
uprated injectors and fuel pump – injectors look standard
Koni dampers on lowered springs
18" wheels
Making 300rwhp, dyno sheet provided
rebuilt 18 months ago by RE-WORX, only 10000miles on engine
just serviced etc long mot and taxed – plugs were old, engine water ways were full of sand! YES SAND!!!!!!

The damage within the engine consisted of:

Failed water seal
Shipped and cracked apex tips
Extremely warn plates
Damaged rotor housing
Old plugs
Extremely poor porting

Check out the pics! I would love to know what the rebuild 10K ago consisted of:

Start from page 6 and work down to page one :)

Luckily Era aka‘oldone’ came to my rescue otherwise my rotary days were over. He went through all the options and saved all the bits he could. I went away and got all bits that needed replacing. He also ported my plates for me as the port that were there were shocking, Again see the link.
He has been very helpful and patient with me and I can not thank him enough.

Cheers!

another quick question with the new ports in place have what turbo do you think i should be running?

I am thinking with a t04s or t04r

I really want full boost below 4000rpm and around 400rwhp

T04S will do full boost way below that, but no get much beyond 400rwhp.
T04R more lag, more power.

I love the T04S on mine, but I\'m only running at 0.8Bar.

Wow that porting job was really something.  Looks like a three year old had a go with a junior hacksaw !!

Well done Era for helping you out.  A top bloke..

Good luck with the new build mate :) Was going to look at a nice RX7 on Friday thats apparently been looked after by RE:Worx since its been in the country, after reading that thread I don\'t think I\'ll bother now :(
Shame as it looked a decent example

Why take the risk though lol At the end of the day it didn\'t look like it was handled fairly, and the stripdown report wasn\'t exactly glowing!!

Bonus is the one I\'m interested in looks like it was rebuilt in Japan as its showing 7.4s/7.8s on the rotors, although its been maintained by them
