Hey guys. I am looking at buying a UK spec Gen3 RX7 and just wanted to throw a few queries out for discussion.
Engine - I understand the BHP is down on the import, 237 Vs 280 but is it the same engine, ie 2616cc? If so what needs to be done to up the BHP.
Body - Being in the UK longer most have more miles on the chasis therefore what are some of the side effects and is rust a big issue? What components would most likely need replacing up around the 100k mile mark?
Thanks for any information or opinions anyone has.
Steve
same engine, just it has pre-cats and the ecu is set for crappier fuel. remove those issues and the enigne is just as powerful.
rust is a little bit of an issue - mainly the rear arches (from the looks on mine anyway). components needing replaced would be the usual suspects - bushes, etc.
otherwise should still bea stong car! :D
All UK cars have to have a cat test for MOT,but jap imports up to mid 95 don\'t so are easier to modify, and with VOSA being able to take your car off you with tightening powers on mods it maybe wiser to get an import, also there were only 124 UK cars officially imported,so much more Jap imports to choose from.
Regards
Carl
mine didnt have a cat test! woo hoo! and it passed that! :D
Thanks for your input guys, one other question regarding the standard steering wheel with cruise control. I would prefer to get a sports steering wheel as being over 6ft its on my knees, but i would like to keep the cruise control, is this possible?
Cheers
yeah, its possible if you take off the buttons from the steering wheel and put them somewhere else.. i am still hunting those buttons for my car :(
Cool, I was hoping it would be as simple as that, but if i dont end up reusing them i will let u know.
Cheers
Regarding the ECU, what is the best option. replace with standard jap import or go aftermarket? do both require mapping for UK fuel? and if after market, with the great BHP do i need to upgrade any other engine components.
Also what are the benefits of BOVs
keep the standard one - its mapped for uk fuels as is. when you get some exhaust mods/air filter, etc, then worth going for apexi power fc.
