Title: Car running crazy rich on cold start, Normal???
Post by: neil_jdmr on October 10, 2007, 04:15:07 PM
Hi guys,

My car is running really really rich on start up and as new to rotaries and rx7\'s was just wondering whether this was normal.

I understand when starting from cold its running on either a choke system or another cold start system but it smoke\'s (white) until the cold start system finishes and the revs drop to normal idle (900rpm)

It just stinks of petrol until the revs drop.

So

Normal or Not?

Cheers fella\'s

It does rev higher, to warm up, thats the "AWS system I think,  Accellerated Warm up"

Theres also a wax thermal valve thing on the back of the throttle ody that is meant to change the idle when its cold.  Im unsure what would happen if this failed...

Probably a good idea to pull the fault codes just incase a sensor is playing up, you connect the B+ and FEN with an LED and short TEN adn GND with a piece of wire on the diagnostic connector next to the battery.  Switch the ignition on and it should flash some codes at you (or 1 flash for no faults)

The faults are here http://www.k-rad.com/errcodes.html (http://www.k-rad.com/errcodes.html)

Might be a good place to start?  I\'ve just gone through a similar process on a friends, whos ECU was knackered.. the faults codes helped a treat.
