Title: Clutch Time! Slippage!
Post by: N777CK T on October 10, 2007, 04:01:38 PM
So my clutch has been slipping a few weeks now and Honda Civics can keep up with me because of it so...

I\'ve phoned RE:Worx in Portsmouth and they can fit a standard clutch for £400 all in. (breakdown: £250 clutch / £150 [2 hours] fitting)

Super 7 Autos in Shoreham is the only other RX7 specialist that i know of near me (West Sussex/Hampshire) and they said i could get a standard one but an organic disk clutch with increased pressure plate force (single plate) would be good for uprating and could be fitted for £500 all in!
They also said that the Exedy clutches on eBay are just like standard so no point in getting those...? I\'m a n00b so i dont know why organic is better etc...

I have a stock engine (afaik) and I want to be getting a few extras like FC Commander + V-Mount to make it a bit faster over the next few months...
Its my only car so I use it everyday so I would want to keep it easy to pull away etc...

Are there any other tuners nearby me? What other clutches have I missed out on?

Thanks! Nick! :3gears-lh

yeah, you want organic plate and uprated pressure plate.

I have RG from Japan, can get them off crescent.  Very nice item.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Whats an RG? Who is Crescent??
Why is organic + uprated pressure plate better?

Also I want to get down silverstone and start drifting on a regular basis! Is there a better clutch for this kind of thing?
:)

crescent shop are Yahoo Japan auction agents,

this is organic plate I have

http://page12.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/p82948825

you can join and then buy stuff, they ship it to you and you pay charges.  Can be pricey though sometime

paddle clutch is like this

http://page8.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h25589474

can handle more power, but is difficult in traffic like an on-off switch less progressive

organic + higher pressure plate should handle 400 fwhp easy enough

could go on crescent but havent set up on there yet :( bit frustrated.

have feed bumper to go on. didnt want carbon though i wanted the black surround ones but with all clear lenses ie no orange at all.

prices of everything from uk suppliers is laughable or they dont stock it im finding. :(

got any more of em mate as they looked mighty nice (mirrors)

pm me or ring me anyway mate before we trash this thread :spank

to add something usefull....

I went from a stock clutch (which hadnt worn out) to a racing beat 6 puck clutch. it is unsprung so makes it possible worse than yours nick. actually certainly. however on the track it is emense!!

i would say if you are using the car infrequently and more so on track get something serious otherwise stick with stock or that organic jobbie and you will get the best compromise.

those 3 pucks are bad news also - talking from various wise persons experiences.

and remember paddle = less or no slippage but a hell of a bite! lol

p.s. nick how easy is it to order just one set of those lights as i might do that now.

also i\'ve noticed that from stand still i can blat through all the gears without any clutch slipping... the clutch slips when i am in say 5th gear at 3,000rpm and then when i need to floor it to overtake it slips then!
Is this normal clutch slippage??

this sound like a good price to you lot??

just wondered because i *think* ive seen the clutch that im getting for like £260!
That means £327.50 fitting??? (obviously including oil etc)
