Title: Optimistic Speedo
Post by: Cycaduk on October 06, 2007, 08:41:54 PM
Hi all, a question/ dilemma.

Ive now installed the EGI gearbox into my Mark II RX7. It needed a bigger (longer hole) gap in the floor to fit, and it sits a bit higher also.
My big problem, though is that at about 60 MPH the speedo reads 72,  Before it did not seem that far out. Is the speedo drive that different between the two gearboxes? I also seem to have gained a longer 5th gear which will help the fuel economy.
With the lack of whine I now have, there are some other noises prevalent. Hopefully I will get these fixed over the coming winter.

I could do with a higher top gear!  Keep us posted with the transplant.

The hole in the floor that the gear lever goes through needs to be at least 1.5inches longer. More would help.
The mounting brackets needed altering, I just drilled new holes in the original bracket, but now the gearlever is much higher inside the car., I then had to modify the boot that seals the outside from the inside.
Top gear has moved from 0.825:1 to 0.711 meaning 70MPH has gone from 3300 to 2800 RPM.
Apart from 4th gear, which stays at 1.00, all the other gears are \'longer\' Ill let you know how it drives around town.

Funny you should mention an optimistic speedo cos on the way to japfest today my speedo read 10mph out compared to the satnav........anyways make me a second person interested in how this box does for normal everyday driving.

i dont even bother with mine! i know it was at least 10% as you have all said, i genrally use my sat nav but did pull the clocks out the other day to change a bulb, hooked up a drill to the speedo, sat it at 80 pulled the needle off and replaced it at 70 so at least it is close, not checked it yet as im still sorting the short shifter, electric fan and poly bushies
