Title: Oil Pipe
Post by: Clarky on October 05, 2007, 01:02:17 PM
I want to move the copper pipe that goes across the front crossmember on my FD it feeds the oil coolers, has anyone done this? and would rubber piping be ok, or is copper a must.

Hiya,

Cant see any reason why not providing you "P" clip the rubber hoses so they don\'t rub anything.

Sorry if you know this already, but it may be an idea to go to a purtech type hose company and get the ends properly crimped on rather than jubilee clips as Rotarys run higher oil pressure than boingers.

You can use rubber, when I had new oil coolers fitted, braided lined were used.
But I would guess that copper would be better.
It will disperse heat better than ruber, especially at front of car where it will get plenty of air to dispurse it.
Copper is less liely to perish, although we would be talking quite some timw.
Copper will also be lighter.

Hi John,

My only reservation would be not to use thin wall copper tube because it could even rub through under a retaining clip and cause a leak.

Hi Clive,
I am going to let purtech in Ashford do the job for me thanks.

I work for pirtek mate if it\'s any help! we don\'t really do alot of copper pipe work & to be honest i doubt very much that ashford will keep any in stock.
Most of our pipe work is usually done in steel!
If you can find out what size the fittings are or can send the pipe down to me in bristol i can probably sort summit out for you.
Will certainly be cheaper ;)

I have in the past used pipework and hose used for hydraulics. Very thick walled, and can handle any amount of psi the rx7 develops. Check locally there may be a few suppliers handy.

Pirtek did my turbo oil return, a 10" length of braided cost a bomb but better than rubber as it\'s so close to the manifold.
