Title: Switch for the aerial
Post by: Swanny_UK on September 30, 2007, 03:58:46 PM
Guys,

Ive just fitted an aftermarket head unit to the FD and while Im chuffed to bits with it, theres just one thing thats bugging me.  The standard unit used to raise the aerial when the radio was on, and lower it when its off.  Porbably really easy to do with it being two units in a double DIN configuration.

Now - whenever the headunit is on, and reading from any source, the aerial is up.  Now I wouldnt mind, but the aerial is very ...erm ...90\'s chique.  I\'d like it to be off if im not using the radio.  Im even willing to press a switch to raise and lower the aeriel, and I think I have a plan.

In the ISO adaptor Ive used to connect Mazda and ISO standard together Ive noticed theres a blue wire which is listed as \'Antenna\'.  Now, if I put a switch in line on this wire - do you think it\'ll allow me to raise and lower the aerial at will?

The diagram is available from the Autoleads website here! (http://www.autoleads.co.uk/pc3/PC3-203.pdf)

Im pretty sure it will, but i\'d rather check!  Has anyone else done this?

I\'d say it should allow you to lower the antenna if you break the antenna circuit...

Or get a better class of head unit, my Nakamichi only turns on the antenna if I want to listen to the radio :)

Ah super, I always have to check!

Ive got to say, I fully appreciate the build quality of the Nakamichi units, but something doesnt quite click with me.  I was after something sleek and simple, but with the ability to play a lof of different types of media, and opted for the JVC AVX-33.  The Nakamichi IN-DV7 looks a nice unit though!

swap the 90\'s aerial for a nice sleek bee sting aerial... you\'ll need to remove the whole pop-up motor, but its easy to do..  :)
