Title: exhaust noise
Post by: richrx on February 12, 2004, 01:31:33 AM
hi,

i have a standard exhaust at the moment, exept a mid-pipe.I was wandering what power/drivability would be like after fitting a cat-back system to it(im getting ecu)

but mainly what is it like to drive with the constant noise, is it loud in the cabbin, i have experience of one so far and im not sure yet on the noise, the two i was looking at were a blitz and KSP. never heard of ksp any good?

cheers

rik

Never heard of KSP but have been in an fd with Blitz Nur Spec.  It comes under the really f@#king loud category.  Great for scaring children and old ladies with.  Comes with a bung to stick in the tail to tame it a touch but I found it sound a little weird with it in.
If you want something a bit quieter try to find an Apex-i Dunk Megaphone.  I have one on mine.  Can\'t tell you where to get one as mine was imported on the car.  Not to loud.  Nice deep burble on idle and lets people know that you are there when pinned but with the windows up you wouldn\'t really hear it.  Its a stainless steel cat back with 5 inch tail.  Looks nice but I want to change mine as I\'m looking for proper loud!!!!:D
Hope this is of some help.

No I haven\'t heard one, but the blitz catback on it\'s own is very loud so can\'t imagine how nut\'s it would be with a midpipe too.
I know panspeed and re-amemiya, hks are fairly quiet catbacks.
Don\'t think you will notice any difference in drivability at all.

Hi Richrx, I have the Blitz Nur spec R on my RX with a larger downpipe but with the cat left in, tis true they are fairly loud, leave the bung in for daily driving, take the bung out when you want too hear a nice roar oh and I mean a ROAR. Sounds good though........best regards Leigh.

Rich, remember my midpipe is silenced so would be even louder with a non-silenced one.  Probably worth harassing Bob, be interesting to see how his Racing Beat dual tip compares given it is the quietest mainstream backbox.

Also, if you aren\'t in any rush I might be interested in a part-ex for your stock one in the future.  Want to run mine, Bobs and a stock backbox back to back on my car on the rollers and with a db meter.  I\'d like proof that being deafened does in fact make a noticeable difference to power figures, if not then I\'d prefer to be quieter :)

Give me a shout if you want to find out what the other local FDs are running, think I have details for most of them.

BTW, the Blitz is very loud

At the moment I have a custom stainless arrangement shall we say. We are guessing it was made up by FreeFlow since Marc reconised the welding....(which is never a good sign in my book)

I have heard different things about the noise... pottering around it sounds okay, deep but not too loud.
Charged past Doug 2-3 times on 1 trip and he said some times it was deathly silent and others it was splitting his ears...
You were in Robbies when I passed the other week...what do you think?
Hopefully getting the RacingBeat system fitted in the next few weeks. I am also waiting to see what it sounds like.;)

I have a blitz nur spec and with a gt3540 turbo and 3" straight through system it is f***ing loud.I tested it with my works db meter and it was 107db at 4000 rpm,1 metre from the tailpipe at a 45 degree angle.

I have a HKS, de - cat exhaust, 5 inch pipe - racing spec i think.  With the bung its fine (its in at the mo due to over boost) without it is v loud in the cabin, especially when your driving at a constant speed within the rev range when the turbos are active.

Rich

By all means.  Give me a shout if you are interested.  Wish I could post a picture but my camera is playing up.

Have a look at http://www.weekdayshopper.com/shop/greddy-evo-exhaust.cfm

Address sounds way off I know but there is pictures of the Apexi Dunk system for Mitzi, Honda etc on there.  Sorry didn\'t have much time to look for rx7 specific.  Also not exact system, as mine is fully stainless whereas these appear to be mild.  Who knows:confused:

Same style though so will give you an idea of looks at least.
