I\'ve been posting away for all I\'m worth to try and fill the gap you\'ve spotted.
Collecting my new fuel tank next Monday or Tuesday. Don\'t cough but it\'s going to be £273 quid less 10%!
Sent sample brake lines off to Stevsons in Birmingham to have new Goodritch ones made. (Out of interest anyone used Stevson Motors)?
Done about 10 miles last week!
\'Nowt else to report.

Sounding like its coming along nicely. Where did you get the tank from in the end. That doesn\'t sound like a bad price, the forming tools for a tank like that would cost hundreds of thousands of pounds to make.

Well, I am lurking here.

Current priority, though, is my 3rd Gen engine replacement, so absolutely NO progress on the RX-2 I\'m afraid.

Shaun, The tank\'s a Mazda part. From JCT600 group. Used to be the Leeds Mazda branch but they\'ve moved trade enquiries and oddball orders like FB parts to Wakefield depot. Accessed from a Leeds No. 0113 231 9793. I ask for Mark. Seems very helpful. I\'ll report more how helpful they are tomorrow, as I am collecting today. I\'ll ask about FB orders for the Club in general.
Mark, Yes S3 manufacturers part. I\'ll have a look at the clutch line while I\'m doing the brakes.

Are you making your SS lines from scratch or were they off the shelf?

Well, blow me down. I was ever so excited. Got me petrol tank and it\'s perfect (obviously because it\'s an original Mazda part), BUT.... it had come in to the dealer £100 CHEAPER!!! And he PASSED IT ON!!! So only £173 on the credit card. Mark at JCT 600, (see above earlier post), says "yes", any MRC members want to ring him he\'ll try to help if parts are available.
Then tonight I read about Clive and Lisa and got depressed; although I don\'t know anybody on MRC to say "hello" to in the street, anything that results in  such obvious harm to the club is sad.

Yes, I\'ll let you know.
The reason I\'ve not gone for an e bay set of lines, (incidentally, heavy duty or not wouldn\'t matter for me), is because every seller on the bay seems to be dealing in 4 line sets, whereas the S3 1st gen has got to have 5. Also the fronts are a bit odd, with the strut mounting thro\' connection in the line. So, having got a full set of old spares, I\'ve bunged \'em off to a specialist to see what he comes up with.

Mmmm well I got the brake lines specially made up and fitted. Results so-so. For example theyre made up out of Goodritch parts - fine, but the fronts have a specially machined centre fitment for the strut mount (which didn\'t fit right and had to be modded. Plus one leaked at the centre until I tightened it further - so not tested in works!). Also the back hoses didn\'t have the same flare inside the nipple which connects to the steel pipes. This worked OK however.
If I was doing the job again I\'d source from JCT Mazda and wait for them to arrive. The only problem with that is that when I enquired they didn\'t have a code no. for the rear axle centre hose - this doesn\'t seem to be included in any kit either!

Cheers for that insight David, sounds like you\'re kinda happy but could be better sort of situation.

I\'m still in a quandry as to what to do because I\'m gonna end up with 2nd gen brakes eventually due to me swapping to some nice fat retro wheels with the later PCD care of Don Pamponi sooooooo where does that leave me in the brake line situation? Will I have to have custom ones made anyway?

Yeesh!

Yes, I\'m OK but I don\'t like having to modify when I\'d sent samples. It removes responsibility from the supplier. I really like genuine parts that fit as they are supposed to, which Mazda invariably do.
Now, recently there was a post for brake line clips from an FD guy, did you see it? In the end he got some off a 323 in the wreckers, and here\'s the point: I\'m begining to think that FB, FC, FD and other mazdas all have the same or similar brake lines.  So 2nd gen brakes may not be a problem.
I went to Stevsons in Birmingham for mine but I\'d also considered Flexolite, run by Derek McGrath, somewhere in Hereford who advertises in classics mags. I\'d actually phoned him and he sounded fine for specials but I went to Stevsons who are in the same city as Goodridge. (Get the logic? I\'d hoped for a quicker turnaround). Anyway, either try Stevson or Flexolite on the phone. Both are on the internety. Stevson has got patterns now \'cos I suggested he should keep a record. Mine were £97 all in but he\'s been on a learning curve with me. I don\'t mind ringing Mr Stevson to tell him where he went wrong if it helps.

I don\'t know of the quality of these (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=011&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=320043789180&rd=1), but could be an option?

i will have to dig out where i got mine (from Ebay in the US dot approved), must of been half that price and came with the extra flexie for the rear axle not fitted them yet though

The write up sounds perfect. Again only a 4 line set but it would be possible to get that rear axle line made up seperately somewhere else.
I would have gone down this route but every time I saw \'4 line set\' I assumed there would be something else wrong with them. Sounds like Mark got the full 5 lines somehow.

plenty of WD40 then! mine was part restored when i brought the shell and i think the bushes were done then as they weren\'t to bad when they came out however they were rubber so best to upgrade, sure you can replace the ball joints mine are still good so i didn\'t look any further into it!
