Title: A few questions
Post by: pjd7325 on September 26, 2007, 11:22:14 PM
Hi Just bought my 3rd FC and just a few questions after 12 months without owning a rotary.

1) What is the correct oil pressure? Mine seams to stay around 30 and drop right down to 10 when idling. Is there any cure to this? No oil leaks I can see, oil level is fine.

2) When I start her from cold she revs up to 3000 rpm and then settles down as is normal. But when I engage first she revs up to 2000rpm again it does this in every gear apart from reverse. After about 5 mins it performs normally and ticks over at 750 rpm. Is this normal?

 3) The paint work is quite faded, but can\'t afford a re spray as yet has anyone got any useful tips? I\'ve got some G3 and polishing head on my drill! The previous owner said he has used T Cut in the past.

T-Cut does more damage than good. I tend to find meguiars do a few decent products for faded paintwork. Easy to use, at good prices too.

Would Mer polish do the trick do you think?

In my opinion, there are much better products out there these days.
My old man, on the other hand will not touch anything other than Mer!
I find it takes twice as long to polish with Mer, as alot of residue is left, especially compared my meguiars products.

Ok! I\'ve got some mer in the shed but if you think it\'s not very then i\'ll try something else. Is there a web site for where you get you stuff from?

Tried some G3 rubbing compound and some mer polish and it\'s come up a treat!

Just be careful with the G3 and stop before you\'re polishing primer :).

(1) - seems a bit low to me but I haven\'t driven my convertible in a while so I\'d have to check.

(2) - The revs on mine come down slowly as the engine warms up. Is that what you\'re referring to?

I used the G3 and kept the car wet while doing it, but I know what you mean.

I thought the pressure was a bit low, mind you the oil does seam very thin ie when I take the dip stick out the oil drips off even when cold so that may explain that problem. The previous owner said he carried an oil change.

As regards the revving problem if I start it from cold it revs up to 3000 rpm and gradually the revs come down it hunts a little bit but then settles to 750 rpm. As soon as I put in gear with the cltuch down the revs jump up to 2000 rpm but as soon as knock it out of gear it comes back down to around 750 rpm. I ca drive it at low speed with out even using the throttle! Would be a sensor playing up? Evetunally this does stop but after 15 mins or so long after the car has warmed up!

try the Meguiars Clay Bar kit. can be bought from halfords, or Meguiars website (for slighty cheaper).
makes the paintwork, feel smooth as! Basically like glass.
Makes cleaning the car much easier too. i Clay mine twice a year, and it always looks spot on!
