knew i was in for a long day when the mot man couldnt understand the engine capacity but anyway........
just failed my mot as the fog light was too close to the brake light (converted the inside brake light temp. for the test) reason i did this was the mot centre said if i did the reverse conversion, it might not be bright enough after being sprayed etc. they then said that leds were getting passed but to quote mot man "i havent seen any official paperwork stating that" so id have been chancing that by going that route!
my lovely white mazdaspeed gauges that came with the car failed as they werent dual read mph/kph) i did the usual and just stuck mph over it lol..............
................and to make matters worse my dump valve stopped working when i left the test centre. under load the car revs to 2500 but sticks there and starts to splutter and there is no noise from the bov. hopefully that is just a loose pipe.........hopefully
nightmare day.
oh yeah, cars were going thru the mot at a rate of 3 cars to my 1 as he went over everything with a flashlight (and ruler) just to make it all worse!!!
Had you upset him in some way?

bloody jobsworths!!!!!!:flamed
urm! your car cant fail because of the speedo mate. the guy is a ****

Sounds a bit weird... Sure you didn\'t wind him up somehow?
If it only reads in km/h I\'m pretty sure its a fail
Quote from: BrettHad you upset him in some way?
nope, not in any way. tried to be helpful and polite!

it shouldnt make a difference, the law is the law.
if he\'s wrong on anything just report him - make him look stupid:)

seems to be a fair bit on confusion tho mate cuz plenty on here seemed fine with putting a sticky over it. as for the fog light i may have no come back but modern cars have light clusters that are very close, so ill get my detective cap on tonight!
its not a requirement according to vosa. you can even pass an mot without an odometer reading. and as for the fog light thing. cars come with fog lights in the same cluster as brake lights. he has had you over because you have a nice car and probably a fit bird too.

I would have complained to the mgmt about this!

it costs the full mot fee to report a dodgy mot tester and your car has to be in the same state as it went in because they send the boys out to do checks.
can you tell i have just taken an mot managers course? lol
1 of 2 things: -
1) You\'ve wound him up and he\'s being jobsworth and petty
2) He\'s just avin a bad day and taking it out on you.
If I were you i\'d cough up for the MOT check, but tell him you\'ll be going elsewhere for another opinion :)
perhaps he used to work for vosa as this was a requirement for the sva test-odo sticker in mph and fog couldnt be too close to brake lights either.perhaps he should retake his mot test!!!!

haha, but can you not just write a letter to the dvla or whatever its called?
take it elsewhere. and explain to the new garage what happened, you probably find they will be less strict just to have one over on the other garage
Quote from: theteraIf it only reads in km/h I\'m pretty sure its a fail
Actually I don\'t think it is, but I\'m pretty sure it goes against Construction & Use regs. \'cos I\'m used to km/h I\'ve had several JDM cars with km/h speedos in the past. Didn\'t seem to bother the testers overly.
Quote from: 12Ahaha, but can you not just write a letter to the dvla or whatever its called?
unfortunatly no, its a big operation if someone complains.
i really wasnt rude or anything, spoke when spoken to and followed all his instructions. just to get thru pain-free
complaining will probably just fall on deaf ears, id rather put the energy into fixing the dump valve than some muppet cuz i really dont want to change the mazdaspeed dials in any way!!!!
the best part, which i forgot to mention was when he asked me if it had been sva\'d, i was gobsmacked as he really should have known only car younger than 10 years need it!!!
i feel sick now. ill have to look online for an mot book of some kind with clear rules of can and cants.

over this side we have to go to test centres all run by dvlni. we cant just go to garages they way you can on the mainland.
there is a mot link somewhere that tells you whats part of the test and what isnt
Accept your £45 loss and go to another test station and start again. He sounds like a tw*t to me.

QuoteMust not interact with other lights.
and so let the grey areas and personal interpertation commence!
its supposed to mean dodgy wiring and stuff. ie: putting your indicators on shouldnt activate the brake light.

interact in what way? it doesn\'t say!
I would take it to mean the beam of light shouldn\'t interfear with the other lights.
- doesn\'t mean everyone is going to see it the same way you do or i do. That\'s my point. :)
the clocks dont come into an mot and as long as u have a working foglight then thats fine to, must be to the left of the brake light tho,... guys a real tit!! he sounds worse than vosa guys lol.. for the de-limiting on ma cars i just colout in the k and iv never had probs, even with sva tests thats fine and there really stricted..

Anyway, back on topic, in for my MOT tomorrow morning! Wish me luck!
Make sure the foglight is on the right hand side by the exhaust. My mot man failed mine because it didn\'t have one. I attached one of those crappy trailer type lamp units, took it back to find out it was on the wrong side. He let me off though and passed it without a retest fee. The foglight came straight back off once it passed:Giggle
just ****es me off that some mot staff dont know their job. the mot book states that the fog light should be offset from the centre of the car. if you look at pug 206s\' youll see a fog light bang in the middle of the rear bumer RIGHT UNDER the reg plate. complete **** take. another £18.50 for retest fee, plus electrical bits, plus a dial that lights up. w@nkers.
I feel for ya bud, i\'ve got an MOT coming in Nov, and im in the same boat regarding the KMH only dial (knightsports), but it got through the SVA/First Mot so i have no reason to doubt it wont pass this time around. And i\'ve always wondered why the 206\'s were exempt from that foglight rule.
Nothing about speedo\'s in the MOT notes:
http://www.motester.co.uk/mot-video.html (http://www.motester.co.uk/mot-video.html)
A car will pass without a working speedo - you might get nicked for speeding though ;)
load of boooolarks.
speedo = rubbish cant fail all of mine is in kms
Fog + brakes = even deeper sh1te you get fogs millimeters away in the same cluster.
sounds a pr1ck.
well i finally got to the bottom of it.
1. any car on the road in NI after 1984 must have dual mph/kph display which lights up - rules out a stick on.
2 fog lamp - must be 250mm up from the ground and be 100mm apart from a brake light, you can convert a brake light to be a fog light/tail light, etc, if it is 100mm apart form other brake lights.
Seems different parts of the UK have different requirements.
VOSA only applies to England apparently, as he pulled out his MOT test book.
so a retest it is. anyone know where i can get light up dual dials that will fit over mazdaspeed speedo for mot purposes?

Yes. So is the honda s2000 and pug 206. You could convert the center brake light. As for the clocks, try the indiglo ones. These fit over the needles and look cool at the same time

do you know if they fit a 97 rx? they just say 92-95 but i did a search but couldnt find what i was looking for. i saw those new on ebay for £25 from america. i could just change the wiring to make it light up then take em out again after mot, cuz i really like my mazdaspeed dials!
ok im a mot tester and the kph doesnt come into an mot.
and as for the rear fog light light as long as its eithe on the offside(drivers side)or the centre of the car then its a pass and must show red.
i think tihs guys just being a prick and if u wanted to be really cruel report him to your nearest vosa office(ill give u it iof u want)
he will get penalty points against him and the garage for being such a prick.
hope this helps
