Title: Looking for an Alarm!
Post by: N777CK T on September 25, 2007, 01:05:37 PM
Most of you seem to have Clifford Concept 650 cat1 alarm+imob.
How much did you pay/where is the cheapest place including mobile fitting??

I would like an alarm that has remote engine start and proximity sensors...

apparently I have been told by an alarm telesalesman RX7s cannot have remote central locking... is this right?

Another place have advised me to get the Viper 771XV 2 way pager which is not cat 1 but costs £350 which is OK i think?

Any suggestions?
Thanks. Nick.

Check these old threads out mate. http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/search.php?searchid=784828
You can fit remote locking to this car. My concept 650 cost £250 installed by a pro. It\'s a cat1 alarm. £350 for an alarm which isnt even cat 1 is steep IMO

I had one of the Toad i606 cat 1 Alarms on my BMW 744 Alpina with full closure and it was a superb alarm, never once a false alarm. Dont know who there is near you for buying and fitting them, but i would def suggest that over a non cat1 Viper alarm any day of the week fella. I will be getting one of these as soon as i buy a rex as well.

Good luck with your choice

Had a Toad Ai606 on the last car and it was cracking.  Paid £450 fitted I think.

My bro has the same one on his MX5, and although he has had a few false alarms I think the fitting was probably to blame.

Ive got a Clifford Concept 600 on the RX7 and although i value the name the clifford seems overpriced and ive had technical problems.  paid around £750 fitted by the time I got remote locking and proximaty alert added.

I can recommend M.A.E Electronics. Have a full closure system on mine and love it.

Click the search button, then advanced search and there is an option to search thread titles only. Type central locking, clifford, toad  or whatever you want into the box. This will search for threads specific to that search word. As for engine start, i can\'t see the point in it. It\'s bad for the engine anyway to just leave it ticking over from cold on the drive. When you start the car from cold, you should drive it. This warms the gearbox, brakes etc all at the same time.

how is it bad to leave the engine idling from cold? what damage would that do? surely it isnt good to drive to drive the car straight from cold, especially in winter! it must be better to let the engine warm up a couple of minutes and then go easy on the gearbox etc to let the rest of the car warm up??

what make alarm did your mate have nick english? don\'t most of them have a feature where remote start won\'t work if the car is already in gear?

also just found this on the directed site,
"[SIZE=-2]Avital Remote Start Systems are intended for fuel injected automatic transmission vehicles."

??

remote engine start wouldn\'t just be helpful to me... its a nice poser touch... ;)

I meant it\'s bad to let the car sit there idling away untill the heaters start to blow hot air. I suppose it is best to let it idle for a  min then set off. I think what most folks think with the remote engine start is to remotley start the engine for 10-20mins to get the cabin warm, then set off. Waste of fuel and causes carbon build up. Your right though, it is a good poser gadget:cool

it was my car he tried starting in gear with the maxx3 system.
a lot of these systems do work if they are in gear which is another reason insurance companys dont like them.
when u press the start button it will start the car(in gear or not) and lock the doors,if anyone tries to pinch it then it will cut out as soon as u hit the accelerator or release handbrake(will not start if handbrake off).when u get in u put the keys in and turn on and drive off sorted and a bloody good pose tool!!!!!!:Thumbsup! i think they must say about the automatic as it can be wired in easier to stop this starting anything that is in gear as u cant start most autos unless it is in park or neutral i believe.

Who\'s this and where abouts in cumbria? I\'ll ask around to see if anyone I know has used them.
My mate just got an alarm fitted in Birmingham its a cat 1 not sure of the brand. It cost him £250 and they chucked a turbo timer in too. He said they did all the extras too at not much of a cost each. I\'ll ask him who they are tomoz.

I paid £330 for a Toad AI606 which has been pretty good; no false alarms, low drain, quite loud.
